Dear Friends,

Last week, Chicago Public Schools unveiled new school ratings for the 2013-14 school year, showing that 43rd Ward schools continue to be high-performing and among the best schools in the City.

Schools are ranked under a new system, with 1+ being the highest performance level, followed by 1, 2+, 2 and 3, and

I'm pleased to report our local schools were all rated as a "1" or better!

Following are CPS performance levels for 43rd Ward schools.

Click here to view ratings for schools throughout the City.

Strong schools are vital to our City and these ratings are the result of years of effort by our principals, parents and teachers.

I'm pleased that I've been able to support our schools by advocating for all-school IB at Lincoln Park High School, for the expansion of Lincoln Elementary, continuation of the LaSalle Language program, and new playgrounds and fields for Newberry Academy and Alcott.

I look forward to continuing to work with local LSC's and parent groups in the 43rd Ward to ensure that every parent has high-quality educational options for their children.

Property Tax Update for 43rd Ward Homeowners: North Chicago Township Open for Appeals

From now until December 30th, 43rd Ward homeowners who live in North Chicago Township (south of Fullerton Avenue) may appeal their property tax assessment to the Cook County Board of Review.

Appealing your property tax assessment is an opportunity to ensure your property tax bills are fair and accurate. The most common reason to appeal is over-valuation.

File appeals online at CookCountyBoardOfReview.com.

Contact the following offices with questions about the appeal process or for assistance to file an appeal.

Stockton Pedestrian Underpass Complete

I'm pleased to report the City of Chicago's Department of Transportation has completed the rehabilitation of the third and final pedestrian tunnel under Stockton Drive, located at 2050 N. Lincoln Park West.

With the completion of this tunnel, all three pedestrian tunnels are now open to the public. As reported previously, restoration of the first two tunnels was completed in the beginning of October. Thank you to pedestrians for their patience as these repairs were enacted.

Sincerely,

Michele Signature
