CPSC Report Shows Nursery Product Deaths and Injuries

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released its annual Nursery Products Report on injuries and deaths associated with nursery products amongst children younger than five years old.

On average, there were 163 nursery product related deaths per year. Cribs/mattresses, playpens/play yards, bassinets/cradles, infant carriers, and inclined infant sleep products were associated with 77% of the fatalities reported. Additionally, more than 59,000 nursery product related injuries treated in emergency departments were reported in 2022, an increase compared to 2020 (44,600) and 2021 (53,000). E-Scooter Warnings

A new report by the CPSC showed that injuries associated with all micromobility devices increased nearly 21% in 2022 from 2021. Micromobility-related injuries have trended upward since 2017, increasing by an average of 23% annually. Children 14 years and younger accounted for 36% of micromobility injuries from 2017 to 2022, double their proportion of the U.S. population. Read more on the CPSC page. Also, this month the CPSC warned consumers to stop using Toos Elite Electric Scooters due to fire hazard. The warning comes after two people, including a seven-year-old, died in an apartment fire that local fire officials determined was caused by the lithium-ion battery in a Toos Elite 60-volt scooter.
