February 2021 Issue

Dear Friends,

I found a quote last week that I thought captured our times during COVID and our attempts to plan events and programs for the members of CPWC this year.

"Plans are useless, but planning is essential."
-Dwight Eisenhower

So.... we continue to appreciate everyone's flexibility as our plans change. I'm sure there are more examples of planning and changing, but here are a few from CPWC:
  • Rain during our scheduled time for Daytime (and Outdoor!) Book club........so we moved the date,
  • Social distancing requirements made our planned Party for a Purpose fundraiser seem like a bad idea, so we canceled it.
  • Yoga via Zoom video-conference lead by our capable yogi, Belinda Vogel.
  • Our normal pre-Trick or Treat Halloween Party became a Donut Delivery Extravaganza for our cooped-up kiddos.
  • An incremental February daytime program. Our wonderful Programming team has arranged for our very own French chef, Aurelie Barrial, to teach us to prepare some special treats in honor of Valentine's Day.
  • My ever capable and sunny co-president, Chris Cashman, packaged and delivered artist kits with a canvas, brushes and paints so our resident artist, Maryam Shirazzi, could teach us to paint a waterscape during a Savvy Evening Group meeting. (Please don't ask to see mine )
  • Kristen Bernheim Farnsley and Christy Santos Kane also figured out how to make a Santa gathering for the kids safe and enjoyable.
  • And our hiking group, under Jean Dole and Trish Wegner's leadership, hike on with more people than ever before.

And so our theme of "Appreciate!" remains relevant.......Appreciation of our neighbors, nature, friendship, food.........flexibility...and leadership. Thank you to all who plan, lead and carry on making our CPWC wonderful.

Stay safe and healthy,

Chris Cashman & Jean Ann McCarthy

Looking for Farm to Table Produce delivered to your door every week?  Look no further...
We hope you will join us for a little demonstration in Soup making..  Not just any soup but soup made by our friends at Fresh Harvest.

Dana at Fresh Harvest will unpack their Tuesday Fresh Harvest Box live AND prepare a soup with produce from their farms.  She will be able to answer all your questions as she oversees Fresh Harvest's Outreach & Customer Experiences.

Here's some topics she plans to cover...
What was the vision for Fresh Harvest and how it got started
Where are your headquarters
Where is your produce is grown
How long (time wise) from the farm to table
What's available seasonally, basket sizes and how to order
How many employees at Fresh Harvest and what are their jobs
How many farms do you contract with annually
Do you need volunteers

We asked her to recommend some good reads which our members would really appreciate knowing about.

Just a heads up...the Cashman family SO LOVES Fresh Harvest and the veggies are AMAZING!!!

Check out one of the many Fresh Harvest's Vimeo's from when they first started over 7 years ago...
