As We Prepare For The
The Seventh Sunday After Epiphany
May our ministries bring the new life that you
intend for all people. We ask this in the name of Christ our Lord. Amen
There is one thing that we all have in common. We will all die. One of the great mysteries of life is what happens to us after we die. In our Christian way of thinking we go to one of two places – we either go to heaven or we go to hell. So what does it mean to go to heaven and what does it mean to go to hell? Are heaven and hell real places?
I hope you’ll join us this Sunday as we tackle this question about what happens after we die. The weather gurus are talking about snow again on Sunday. Snow or no snow, we will gather for worship. Come if you can.

Blessings,

Here’s what we need you to do in the next few days…
We would like to have you fill out a participation survey. This can be done online, via email answering the below information, or filling out a form this Sunday and put in the offering plate.

General Conference
Friends, as many of you know, the United Methodist Church has struggled over the issue of sexuality, especially around whether a practicing, self-avowed LGBTQ person can serve as clergy in the UM Church and also whether same gender marriages can be performed in UM Churches. The current position as outlined in the Book of Discipline is that homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching. There are faithful people who agree with this position and there are faithful people who believe this position causes harm to LGBTQ persons and that we, as a church has failed to show love to one another in the way Jesus commands.
This weekend, February 23 rd -26 th , there will be a Special General Conference in St. Louis, where clergy and lay delegates from around the world will gather to pray and discern a way forward for the UM Church. They’ll be reviewing several proposals that have been submitted.
I don’t know how this will turn out. No one does for sure. I do know that when the General Conference is over, no matter what is decided, the church will continue to do the work of God here in this place. Some things will change, but the mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world will not change.
My invitation is for all of us to pray. Pray for the delegates, for wisdom and discernment, for holy conversation that is loving and respectful, for humility, and most importantly for God’s will to be done. If it’s helpful, I’ve included a prayer written by Iowa Bishop Laurie Haller. You can pray Bishop Haller’s prayer or a prayer of your own. If you have any questions, please know that I am available to talk (515-480-8457 or  [email protected] ).
In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Joyce

A Congregational Prayer for United Methodist Church from Bishop Haller

Gracious and loving God, who leads, teaches and guides,
You who offer compassion, grace and mercy, be with us now.
We passionately seek Your presence during challenging times and circumstances and we trust that you are moving in and around our lives.
We, as one part of your Body, the Church, go into the days and weeks ahead seeking to discern Your deep desire for us as The United Methodist Church.
Give us courage as we continue to live and respond to Your invitation to be Your hands, feet and voice.
We ask for a fresh wind of Your Spirit and guidance for each of us as individuals, for the faithful congregations, and for this global community of United Methodists.
We ask for Your wisdom and presence for those among us who have been called to serve as delegates as the Special Session of General Conference gathers today.
Grant them clarity and a discerning spirit as they seek to listen for You in their midst.
Reveal to them Your deep desire for our future as a church.
Give them and us the faith to lay aside our personal wants and needs so that we can be truly present to You, sit with You in reverence and awe, and listen deeply for the still small voice that woos us, comforts us, and invites us to that place where we can live fully and wholly into the Kingdom life that You desire for us.
We lay all this before You as the deep desire of our hearts and minds in the name of Jesus, the Christ.
Amen

Still Room For Volunteers
for the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Tuesday, March 5th—5:00-6:30 pm
Check out the signup sheet to donate items and/or time to help make this meal a success.
To sign-up online click HERE and enter your name in a box under the item you are donating or the time you can help. Monetary donation to offset items purchased will be accepted, please note as "Shrove Pancake Supper".
We are in need of Worship Volunteers!
Please consider helping fill the calendar of open worship duties.

Offer a friendly "Good Morning", "Welcome to Our Church" or "Happy You Could Join Us For Worship Today"...Being a Host for a Sunday simply is providing a greeting with a bulletin and helping with offering-time, or hosting fellowship time.
It is a great feeling to know that we have the spots filled before Sunday mornings so that we have someone ready to do each thing and we are not looking around for people to do so.
If everyone took one of the worship duties every few months we could fill the calendar.
Fellowship time, is what YOU want to make it, it is totally up to the individual and what they want to serve. If you need help with making coffee, etc please feel free to ask and we will find the right person to show or help you.
We have split up the Hosts to Greet and Ushers, due to some people have expressed they are able to stand to greet but don't feel they can help with offering.

In the mean time we would love to still have all the kids
and their families join us for worship!
The weather has pushed back the start of our new Dynamite Disciples rotation so we will be starting the new rotation on February 27th, the Bible lesson theme will be "Jesus Feeds the 5000".
