EARTH MONTH RECAP

Earth Month 2025 was busy in the City of Long Beach! Events focused on educating the community about how to reduce waste and food waste, clean up our natural areas, and promote sustainable choices were at the forefront of the events that took place this past month.

It was wonderful to see so many events throughout the City, with many of you participating in 10 events and volunteered over 40 hours! Events ranged from beach clean ups and informational tabling events to the Fixit Clinic.

Food Waste Prevention Week prompted meaningful conversations, reaching many people both in person and virtually to spread awareness and share knowledge about preventing food waste.

At the April Fixit Clinic, we helped 47 people and successfully diverted 386 pounds of waste from the landfill.

Let's keep up the momentum and continue making a difference in the Long Beach Community!

COMMUNITY OUTREACH SUPPORT

As the City implements new programs such as Residenta Organics (green cart) Collection program, opportunities for CRA involvement will emerge. The City will conduct door to door outreach to assess residents' knowledge of recycling and proper disposal of organic waste in their green carts. Tasks will include knocking on neighbors' doors and conducting surveys between Fall 2025 through Spring 2026. Any hours volunteered can be applied toward CRA volunteer hours.

WORM BIN REHOME AND REVIVAL

We need a worm lovers support! We have one worm bin from a fellow CRA in need of re-homing. This worm bin will come as is with worms and our team will be able to provide you with troubleshooting support but will need attention and revitalization on your part. Please contact us by replying to this email if you are interested in taking in this worm bin. As a reminder, vermicompost is a great option for those with limited space or no yard debris.

FAQs

Q: Where can I access the CRA Portal?

A: The CRA Portal is linked here.

Q: Can I access My Impact Page to report hours without going through the CRA Portal?

A: Yes! Please visit MyImpactPage.com and log in to report your hours.

Q: What if I get asked a question that is not about waste reduction, recycling, or composting?

A: At events led by us there should always be a staff member available to answer questions. If someone is asking questions unrelated to the topics we have covered in class, let the community member know you are a volunteer and please ask a staff member to answer the question. If staff is not available, please give them a business card to contact us.

Q: What if the event that I want to volunteer at is not related to waste reduction, recycling, or composting, can I still count that towards my hours?

A: Only events related to waste reduction, recycling, or composting count toward volunteer hours. Please email the Program Coordinator to get a volunteer activity approved with an organization that is not on our list of current partnerships.

Q: What should I wear when volunteering?

A: Please wear your name tag and t-shirt so that community members can easily identify you as a CRA.

Q: Are there incentives for volunteering?

A: Yes! We appreciate your time spent volunteering. We will be entering folks for a chance to win a gift pack for each milestone of hours you've completed (5,10, and on). So, if you've completed 10 hours, you get two entries.
