November Newsletter

Welcome to November
     President's Message - November 2015
Welcome to the November Newsletter. It is starting to look like we may be looking at winter soon. They are calling for the white stuff in the weather forecast this week. I am sure that everyone's heaters are going to start flying out the doors if they have not already started. Also a good time for those skid steer, blower, and sweeper rentals for snow removal.
Last month I was lucky enough to attend the ARA Leadership in Chicago with Jeremy Andrews from Prairieland Rentals in Regina. It was a great couple days of networking with other leaders from Canada, the Us, and even a fellow from Australia. It was a great opportunity to get ideas from other areas on how to help our members with the American and Canadian Rental Association.
It was especially interesting talking to people that live in States like Texas that also have large distances to travel between cities. If anyone has ideas on what we should do for next year regarding meetings or even just getting together as an association on a social level, the local board would be excited to hear them. The more input we have from the members of Saskatchewan the stronger our association will be.
One of the subjects that was discussed on the weekend in Chicago was the ARA Website. I am not sure how many people make use of this valuable tool. It is a great resource for getting information to help everyone and their businesses. One thing that I did not realise is that there are on line courses through Rental U under the Education tab. These are great education opportunities for staff and they are no charge for CRA/ARA members. If you don't have a Log In for the website you can create a new account off the website .
I want to thank all the members who attended our local meeting last week at The Rent It Store. We had 14 attendees at the meeting. We had some good discussions from around the table and had some fresh new faces attending. Thanks Jill Holtsman for bringing in some food and drinks for everyone before the meeting.
I hope everyone has a safe month.

Discussion started with an update of the Annual CRA Trade Show. As you may not know, this show has been held in Saskatchewan for the past 30 some years.
Edmonton, Alberta will be hosting the show in 2016 on March 4th & 5th 2016. Mark these dates in you calendar! The Host Hotel is The Double Tree (formerly the old Mayfield Inn). Trade Show will be at The Northlands Coliseum
Let`s all try and make it to the show in Alberta!
Discussion on
Equipment & Services Theft

There was great conversation around Equipment &Services Theft at our meeting. More and more companies are experiencing this problem. Gene put forth the Idea of forming a Task Force to create a program for this. Theft is not going away it is just getting worse.

Other ideas were shared as well Brad (Bobcat) talked about working with a GPS company regarding this issue. He also mentioned registering with CPIC (Canadian Police Information Center). This is a police data base where Law Enforcement agencies can access information.

Blair (HubCity Display) suggested all CRA Members can register with the ARA Theft Program at no cost.

Dianna & Brian (Handy Rentals) talked about Liens on Jobsites when they are owed money and that proper training at Service Desks is very important.

This meeting was very informative. The more people who can attend the better we share information.
