California Retailers Association and LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger Announce Safe Shopping For ALL Initiative
Initiative Takes the Politics Out of Wearing a Mask

Sacramento, CA – September 2, 2020 – The California Retailers Association and Supervisor Kathryn Barger, chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors announced today the launch of the Safe Shopping For ALL campaign, an initiative to promote safe shopping in California. The initiative encourages consumers to wear a mask and practice social distancing in an effort to engage retailers, employees and consumers in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 and any possible future waves. The statewide campaign comes ahead of an expected increase in shopping around major holidays including Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and the remainder of the 2020 holiday season.

“We know shoppers are more likely to follow the state mandate to wear a face mask if we take the politics out of wearing one,” said Rachel Michelin, President and CEO of the California Retailers Association. “We also know consumers want to see their retail stores stay open and operational and most consumers want to do their part to stop the spread of the virus. CRA is grateful to have the strong local leadership of LA County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger to help Californians continue on the path of keeping the economy open while bending the curve.”

The Safe Shopping For ALL initiative promotes safety and will help keep retail open while also continuing to promote contactless shopping through online ordering, delivery and curbside pick-up.

“I am proud of the overwhelming support we have seen from many of our residents, business owners and communities throughout Los Angeles County,” said Supervisor Barger. “This campaign will help ensure that we don’t let our guard down so that we can continue to reopen, stay open, get our kids back in school and return to some semblance of normalcy. Los Angeles County has already made incredible strides and this initiative is an opportunity to positively reinforce these necessary measures.”

The statewide Safe Shopping For ALL campaign will utilize store signage, public service announcements, digital and billboard advertisements, strategic partnerships with local professional sports teams and other outlets. The campaign will go through 2020 and into 2021 depending on COVID-19 developments and statewide mandates.
