COVID-19 Vaccination Update
On Friday, Dec. 4, Gov. J.B. Pritzker shared that the first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine could be distributed to health care workers in Illinois between Dec. 20 and Dec. 26.

That same day, the state of Illinois released its COVID-19 Vaccination Plan to assist local health departments in planning for vaccine distribution. This is a state level plan; however, Chicago will receive direct allocation of vaccine from the Federal government.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has worked with Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) to ensure both plans are in sync and complementary.

According to Chicago.gov, the current distribution considerations in Chicago are as follows:
  • While COVID-19 vaccine supply is limited, certain groups (e.g., healthcare workers) will be prioritized to receive vaccine, based on national guidance.
  • CDPH has been working with health care and community partners to increase its ability to quickly distribute a large amount of COVID-19 vaccine, as it becomes available.
  • Supplies will increase over time, and it is anticipated all adults should be able to get vaccinated later in 2021. As the vaccine supplies increases, COVID-19 vaccine will be available through additional vaccination providers, including doctors’ offices, retail pharmacies, hospitals, and federally qualified health centers.

Curious about your place in the vaccine line? The New York Times developed a hypothetical calculator to help estimate your place in the vaccine line. You can answer a few questions to see where you stand at the national, state and county levels.
