CRCA Legislative Consultant Margaret Vaughn reported on several IL Legislative issues currently being discussed in Springfield including:
HB 5412 (Wage Theft Bill): Vaughn is working with the Female and Minority Contractor organizations to lobby against passage. This construction-based legislation would penalize GCs and Roofing Contractors if the subs workers were not paid by the subs. She worked with several industry partners to develop alternative amendments that would provide stiffer penalties to those that commit the wage theft. Vaughn thanked those CRCA members who reached out to IL legislators to voice their opposition to the bill.
HB 2538 (General Contractor Licensing): Vaughn reported that this legislation was defeated which would require licensing by the State of Illinois for General Contractors. Vaughn testified that since there already IL licensing provisions already in place, they should be exempt. She reported that the bill was defeated.
