Examining Burnout and Its Impact on
Rehabilitation Counselors
Burnout of rehabilitation counselors often leads to job dissatisfaction and turnover. The Counselor Burnout Inventory (CBI) is a work-specific instrument for assessing burnout among professional counselors; however, few scholars in rehabilitation counseling have examined this scale.
Gender, caseload, and the quality of supervision can all be factors in whether or not burnout occurs, as found in a study by Junfei Lu, PhD, CRC, Rodney J. Maiden, PhD, CRC, Chu-Ling Lo, PhD. CRC, and Necoal N. Driver, PhD
Published in Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin in 2023, this research feels apt to highlight, as a recent survey found that over two-thirds of workers today feel stressed out by the state of the world. That's on top of a majority saying that they have felt burnt out at work in the last year.
Certified Rehabilitation Counselors have a lot on their shoulders, regardless of their caseload or work setting. Taking care of yourself and practicing self-preservation is key.
