NEW YEAR, NEW LAWS

A photo of the California flag and state capitol building with the words "New California Civil Rights Laws in 2026."

As 2026 gets underway, we're excited to highlight new laws and resources to help Californians better protect themselves and their communities against discrimination. Below are just a few of the new laws enforced by or relating to CRD's work:

Pay Data Reporting Expansion

New, more detailed data will be reported to CRD by large employers to better track pay disparities.

Bureau for Descendants of American Slavery

CRD will house a first-in-the nation bureau intended to advance reparative initiatives.

More Time to Report Pay Discrimination

Workers now have three years to file an equal pay complaint with CRD, including a six-year lookback period for backpay.

Check out our CRD news page to learn more about these laws and other new protections. We encourage Californians to take advantage of CRD's resources to learn more about their rights. Together, we can help protect our communities and fight back against discrimination!
