WELCOME IN

Safer, More Inclusive Businesses

Businesses are more than just a place to eat or shop— they're spaces for the community to come together. That's why we’re excited about Welcome In, our new program to help businesses create safe and inclusive environments.

According to a recent survey, around a third of Californians who experienced hate were targeted while at a business, which not only affects individuals, but can also impact entire businesses and communities. By joining Welcome In, businesses can help be part of the solution!

Through civil rights trainings and technical support, businesses and their staff can gain some of the tools they need to better support customers and earn public recognition for completing the program.

How Does it Work?

Training

Businesses will learn how state civil rights laws protect staff and customers from discrimination. Staff will also get training on how to prevent and safely intervene during conflict.

Support

CRD will check in throughout the training program to see how businesses are doing and help troubleshoot any challenges they face along the way.

Community Engagement

Businesses will participate in community events that help customers feel safe and welcome at their business.

RESOURCE CORNER

Older Californians Month

A customer makes a payment at a market witht he words "discrimination at work facts sheet."

May is Older Californians Month! Did you know our state's civil rights laws protect workers age 40+ from discrimination? Age discrimination at work can look like:

• Asking about a job candidate’s age

• Denying a promotion because of age

• Laying off or forcing early retirement due to age

• Making comments, jokes, or insults about someone’s age

CRD investigates hundreds of age discrimination complaints every year. That's why we've created a new age discrimination fact sheet with everything from examples to information on how to report this type of discrimination. Click below for this resource so we can protect our ourselves and our coworkers!
