NEW TRAINING

Supporting Victims of Hate Crimes

A thumbnail of a new police video training on hate crimes. Becky Monroe of the California Civil Rights Department appears on the thumbnail with text that reads "California vs Hate."

Acts of hate don't just impact the person targeted, they harm whole communities. That is why it is important for us to help ensure those who report hate crimes get the support they need. We're grateful to be part of a new training that will help ensure law enforcement across California have the tools they need to better help people impacted by hate.

As part of the California Commission on the State of Hate's work to help improve law enforcement's response to hate, the Commission partnered with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and CA vs Hate to share the importance of building trust with communities. The video highlights CA vs Hate as a resource to help ensure victims get counseling, legal aid, and other kinds of support to rebuild their lives. Click the thumbnail above to watch the video!

This training is part of a new law in California that requires law enforcement agencies to adopt hate crime polices to document and better investigate hate crimes.
