College and Career Readiness
First Inaugural Wheels 2 Work Event is a Success!

Students across the Santa Fe Trail BOCES gathered to participate in a Wheels 2 Work College and Career Readiness event as part of the six-district Pathways 2 Prosperity effort. Hundreds of middle school students had the opportunity to learn about careers in their community in which vehicles are central to operation. Students spoke with businesses, organizations, and agencies while observing their vehicles which ranged from city and utility vehicles to farm and ranch and health care. Special shout out to Brush School District, which shared their learning in how to produce a successful Wheels 2 Work event.

Openings for SEL Implementation Support!

We have two spots available for rural districts for this school year to receive support with SEL implementation! If your district or school needs support with implementation of an evidence-based SEL program (planning, integration, professional development, curriculum, coaching and assessment), or would like to expand your SEL initiatives this year by claiming one of these spots, please contact Ellen Sarkisian or Kirk Banghart.
STEM Implementation
A great way to re-engage learners and give your students more access to STEM careers is by providing them with learning quests that interest them and reinforce academic skills as they solve crises of various proportions. Don’t miss the opportunity to give your students FREE access to LearningBlade. Check it out here. If you are interested in signing up your school or district, contact Elliot Zettas or Kirk Banghart.
Student-Centered Accountability and Reporting
Join the national conversation on student-centered reporting at the National Forum To Advance Rural Education, being held in Indianapolis from November 10-12. GSN’s Kirk Banghart will be presenting with June Marcel (Gluona) and Caitlin Scott (Marzano) on Achieving Student-Centered, Community-Connected, Meaningful Education Reporting. Grant Opportunities
Empowering Action for School Improvement (EASI)

CDE is now accepting applications to distribute extensive funding to high need districts and schools across the state based on its federally approved Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) state plan.

According to CDE’s school designations for the 2021 - 2022 school year, which also apply for the 2022-2023 school year, your school or district could qualify for one of these funding pathways. CDE offers a number of different grant options, through a grant application called EASI, to schools included on this list, and your eligibility for these funding opportunities could lead to significant new resources for your students, teachers, and administrators.

Schools with the following designations qualify:
  • Comprehensive Support (CS) for lowest 5% OR low graduation
  • Targeted Support (specific student group(s) identified for intervention)
  • Additional Targeted Support (specific student group(s) identified for intervention which would also qualify in the lowest 5%)
  • Priority Improvement or Turnaround Rating on SPF

GSN’s grants team has significant experience writing and implementing these grants, and would be happy to assist you with considering the EASI grant processes. GSN is an approved provider of EASI services. Reach out to Kirk Banghart by November 5th to explore your options.
Nathan Yip Foundation

The Nathan Yip Foundation (NYF) is seeking proposals to select ONE compelling project to feature during the live appeal portion of our annual fundraising gala. NYF’s biggest fundraiser of the year is our Chinese-themed Lunar New Year party, with a funding focus in rural Colorado. NYF is seeking ideas from the school community! Full project cost should be approximately $40,000. As the selected school or district you will not be receiving funding until February 2022, project implementation must be after funding is received.

Keep in mind that this is a crowd-funded LIVE appeal. Projects should be easy for non-education professionals to understand and get excited about. All requests must be from K-12 schools and districts in a rural Colorado community. For examples of past live appeal projects, see here:

To submit your idea, simply email us a one-page letter talking about your school, community, details or your project, and the amount of funding you are seeking. We'll let you know if we have any questions and, if selected, we will work with you on final details. Letters can be emailed to [email protected] - must be received by Friday, November 19, 2021 at 5:00pm MST.
