CREW RICHMOND PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Thank you....
What a fantastic year 2018 has been for CREW Richmond! I have been honored to serve as your CREW President during this year of growth and opportunity.

Our chapter grew to over 100 members! This is a true testament to our founding principles of inclusivity and a shared sense of hospitality. As we draw closer to the end of the year, it is worth taking a moment to highlight a few of the memorable achievements we all worked to accomplish.
The beginning of the year started off with a bang as we opened the door for affiliate and associate membership, increasing opportunities to broaden our reach and accept new and diverse aspects of involvement. We continued to foster the importance of broadening our reach by hosting UCREW and CREW Careers. Both events educate and inspire young women with the diverse fields of commercial real estate.

CREW Richmond Lunch Meetings and Events
CREW Richmond 2018 October Lunch Meeting
by Patricia Taylor-Marais
CREW Richmond’s Annual Meeting took place at New Clay House, a Virginia Supportive Housing (VSH) development, at 1125 W. Clay Street in the historic Carver neighborhood. The 123-year-old building, owned by VSH, was fully renovated and expanded, almost doubling the footprint and number of apartments from 47 to 80. The apartments now average 350 square feet with open floor plans and full kitchens and bathrooms. The development boasts an internal courtyard to bring in natural light, a welcoming gathering space and onsite parking.

Location, location, location!

Over the past few years, the CREW Richmond board has been receiving feedback that our standard venue needs some attention. We're listening!

Our programs team has been hard at work finding the best setting, experience and value that Richmond has to offer. This year we will be taking a journey together! New venues will offer better AV and lighting, easier access to location and added parking options.

We are excited to be able to offer you a better experience and look forward to hearing from you along the way.
2018 CREW Richmond Women's Leadership Summit
Approximately 120 women of different ages and career stages joined us for CREW Richmond’s 5 th Annual Women’s Leadership Summit on November 8 th . Following the tradition of previous summits, the day started out with an inspiring keynote speaker, continued with three one-hour breakout sessions, and concluded with a panel discussion.

This year’s keynote speaker was Jess Ekstrom, founder and CEO of Headbands of Hope.

Jess’ topic was “What’s Not in Our Bios: The Untold Stories of Success.” Using personal and family anecdotes, Jess gave numerous examples of the frequently-unpleasant reality behind a path to success. When she first started her business, the manufacturer she chose to make her headbands stole all her money, and she was forced to start over from scratch. That incident came on the heels of a widely publicized financial hardship that impacted most of her family members. Her stories were an important reminder that you never know what has propelled someone to their current success. Don’t assume it was always easy. Don’t quit in your own attempts when faced with obstacles. For more information about Jess and her causes: www.headbandsofhope.com and www.jessekstrom.com

Dominion Service Company is a privately held, local HVAC & Electrical company with roots dating back to 1979. When the firm was started by the Tunnell family, they had one goal in mind: Deliver outstanding service, value and honesty to our clients. As the firm has continued to evolve, improve and modernize its approach and mentality with respect to heating, cooling and electrical service, its core values, commitment to excellence and focus on customers has never changed.  Dominion Service Company started exclusively servicing commercial HVAC customers in Richmond and expanded into the Hampton Roads market in the mid-1980s. In early 2014, the company opened a presence in Northern Virginia as a result of referral requests. While the firm does offer residential services now, its focus remains on commercial work and the Northern Virginia office is solely serving that market.

Dominion Service recently launched a Business Rewards Program. For residential, the company is currently offering members 15% off their Comfort Club membership/maintenance agreement. For commercial, Dominion Service is offering complimentary surveys which are visual inspections of HVAC equipment for your space. This will let you know model/serial info, filter and coil conditions and overall condition of the units. Companies that have maintenance with the company are also enrolled in its Business Rewards Program that provides 15% off repairs and maintenance at all of your staff/employees homes as well.

CREW Network 2018 Convention
October 17-19, 2018
San Diego, California
by:Ali Newton McCrickard
Convention photos are located in CREW Network’s Flickr gallery  and  Event Documents are located in CREWbiz (CREW Network members only).
The CREW Network Convention proved to be an extraordinarily valuable experience for a first-time attendee. Over the three days in sunny San Diego, we were given a plethora of opportunities to network with successful women in our industry across the country, attend endless continuing education sessions, listen to a handful of motivational speeches by women who truly embody the CREW spirit, and explore a bustling and creative city.

In our educational breakout sessions, we learned about the ever-changing retail landscape and how retailers and owners must stay on top of trends. In a separate session were given insight into the controversial and impending “block-chain” extravaganza (which I previously knew absolutely nothing about). Each lunch session brought time to sit down and get to know members of our own chapter and other members of CREW Network chapters from all over.

CREW Richmond Community Service
by: Lacey Martin
Community service efforts for CREW Richmond were a huge success this year as we looked to impact a variety of local organizations.

Our 2018 efforts kicked off over the spring through our sponsorship of a Women’s Build Day with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Our team of 8, hard hats and all, provided construction support for a house that will help a local family receive much needed housing.

Next, CREW hosted our annual summer social to benefit Dress for Success in its mission to help women in the community by empowering them with a path to economic independence. The event was a huge success, including generous donations to our live auction MC’d by local celebrity Parney from the Squirrels baseball team. Through the generous donations of attendees and sponsors, the event resulted in a $4,000 donation to Dress for Success.
