Inaugural Year of the Past Presidents Scholarships Awarded by the Career Advancement Committee (formerly known as the Foundation Committee)
Claire Gondon
NYU Masters of Real Estate Development
Kelly Smolenski
NYU Masters of Real Estate Development
This March marked the inaugural Past Presidents Scholarship awards, an annual scholarship of $10,000 for graduate students who show exceptional promise in a Commercial Real Estate-related field and show financial need related to continuing their education. This year, we had a total of 12 applications, five of which became finalists. Two of those finalists were awarded monetary awards, along with Graduate Student Memberships to CREWNY. The Career Advancement Committee is proud to introduce the first ever Past Presidents Scholars and welcome them to CREWNY.

Claire Gondon
First time scholarship winner; Awarded the 2019 Past Presidents Scholarship

Claire holds a Master in Architecture and is currently pursuing a Master in Real Estate Development at New York University. Her background in architecture has led her to practice in Belgium, China and the US. She is now Project Manager at NAVA, a development and architecture company in New York City, where she is responsible for their new development projects.

Kelly Smolenski
Awarded the 2019 Past Presidents Scholarship; the 2019 Merle Gross Ginsberg Scholarship and the 2018 AREW/CREW Scholarship.

Kelly’s professional and academic endeavors have always revolved around the built environment. She aspires to manage a vertically integrated firm, managing real estate development and architecture. Although she describes herself as ambitious and hard-working in her academic endeavors, she says it is soccer and track that have molded how she performs as a professional. The importance of communication and teamwork are embedded in all of her pursuits. On the field is where she learned what it means to be a leader, as well as the importance of communication and teamwork. She consistently seeks to be challenged professionally, academically and as an athlete, because pushing your limits leads to progress.

FOUNDATION COMMITTEE HAS A NEW NAME

Our name has changed but not our mission!
The Foundation Committee, in an effort to make our mission and our goals clearer to the members of CREWNY and CREW Network, has changed its name to the Career Advancement Committee!

Our committee’s focus has always been on helping young women with career advancement in the commercial real estate industry, and its new name will now reflect that mission. Whether through our UCrew and CREW Careers programs, or by administering our Past Presidents Scholarship and other programming, we will continue to make students and the public aware of the career opportunities available in the Qualified Fields of Commercial Real Estate. We hope you’ll stay tuned as the Career Advancement Committee refines its existing initiatives and looks for additional ways to help advance the careers of women in commercial real estate!
