CREWNY’s ‘DIG This’ Program Reaches Youth and Industry Leaders Across New York
CEWNY's DIG This: CREW Careers® Program, which concluded on November 7th, was an amazing collaboration among CREWNY, CREW Foundation and Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW). The ultimate goal of the Program was to inspire, encourage & motivate all participants, including CREWNY members and NEW graduates, to pursue and achieve their full potential – whether in CRE or otherwise.
The Program was kicked off during Session 1 with a diverse array of women leaders in development discussing issues directly relevant to the construction jobsites on which the NEW grads worked, as well as other timely issues, insights and experiences in and about the development lifecycle.
The panelists for this segment consisted of: Linda Foggie, SVP, Turner and Townsend; Karen L. Ramos, Managing Director, Credit Agricole CIB; Beatrice Sibblies, Managing Partner, BOS Development; and Alana T. Sliwinski, Esq., Associate, Troutman Pepper LLP.
The panel was followed by JLC Jeopardy, a robust interactive game on elements of construction, co-hosted by Leisa Crawford, SVP Client Relations, Langdon Title, and Carrie Pianin, SVP, Arcturus Group. Inspiring remarks by Wendy Mann, CREW Network CEO, concluded the speakers' portion of the Session.
Overall, 46 CREWNY members and other CRE leaders invested time, efforts, wisdom and experience in the Program, and the NEW graduates, supporting and advancing more women in the CRE pipeline.

Kenne Shepherd, AIA, LEED AP ID+C, gave a Zoom presentation to CREW Midlands on November 19, 2020, called "RETAIL 2020: Our Way Forward."
During the presentation she went over the changing nature of retail in the last 10 years and took a look at how physical retail can be successful going forward. She explained that most assume that ecommerce and the pandemic will be the death of brick-and-mortar retail. Yet, when you look at retail over the last decade, it becomes clear that there are other, larger societal forces at play. Many ecommerce retailers have started to build physical stores to increase sales and market share, and it has become clear that, for brick-and-mortar retailers to survive, they must fully embrace online retail and truly integrate all points of sale into a unified ecosystem. There are several retailers that have embraced this model and more are doing so.
The request for the talk came via Liz McCary, Past-President of CREW Midlands – South Carolina, to speak to members of her Chapter on retail trends in 2020. Liz, who had seen Kenne's presentation on “Clicks to Bricks” at the CREW Convention in Houston, was interested in a follow-up presentation for her Chapter. This request certainly serves as a testament to the power of CREW Connections and CREW Network members reaching out to other members.
