DIG THIS: Session 3 Recap
On November 7th, CREWNY concluded its three-Session DIG This: CREW Careers® Program, a collaboration among CREWNY, CREW Foundation and Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW). The program focused on the Development Lifecycle to educate NEW graduates about: substantive elements of that lifecycle, where their roles as tradeswomen fits in it, how their acquired jobsite skills and knowledge can be translated to other CRE roles, and CRE career opportunities beyond the trades. The Program's overarching goal was to inspire, encourage and motivate all participants, including CREWNY members and NEW graduates, to pursue and achieve their full potential – whether in CRE or otherwise.

The Program culminated in a Mock RFP Team Challenge, in which teams of NEW graduates developed and presented to a panel of judges their exceptional proposals that responded to a Mock RFP for the development of a new headquarters at Bronx Point. Forty-six CREWNY members and other CRE leaders invested time, effort, wisdom and experience in the Program, and the NEW graduates to support and advance more women in the CRE pipeline.

The Session 3 Judges were Christine Chipurnoi, Linda Foggie, Elizabeth Muskat, Jaimee Nardiello, Kennetha Pettus and Jennifer Stewart.

The Teams were coached by Claire Gondon, Rachel Merva, Kasey Pace, Wendy Rossi, Stella Schirripa, Kenne Shepherd, and Andis Woodlief.

Legacy Leaders Event: "The Plaza: The Secret Life of America's Most Famous Hotel"
On November 12, Legacy Leaders across the industry spent the evening with Julie Satow, an award-winning journalist who has written about the topics of real estate, business and New York for more than a decade.

The topic of the evening was her first book, "The Plaza, the secret life of America's most famous hotel." Julie was joined by Katherine Clarke, who is a reporter at The Wall Street Journal, where she covers the luxury real estate market for the weekly Mansion section.

The adage "if walls could talk" never rang more true. Thankfully, Julie's research brought out at least some of the exciting stories. The attendees learned about the hotel's inception, it's partial conversion into residential apartments and the many colorful hotel owners - perhaps the most famous and memorable being Donald and Ivana Trump.

On Friday, November 13, the Career Advancement Committee held its third annual UCrew program, directed towards undergraduates considering a path in Commercial Real Estate. Over 25 students registered! The program included breakout networking sessions with six CREW members on subjects such as Real Estate Law, Real Estate Finance, Project Management and others.

The keynote was delivered by Lisa Montanaro, a professional speaker on topics ranging from productivity to personal branding. Her theme (and the theme of the program) was Personal Branding in a Virtual World.

Many thanks to everyone who participated!
Donate to WIN Secret Santa
With only a small handful of days left to purchase gifts, the Liberty Shelter in Brooklyn only needs another 360 gifts in order to provide three gifts to every child at the shelter.

The CREWNY chapter stepped in and donated 450 jumbo gift bags, with Betty Castro and several others contributing even more, so that the families can wrap their children's gifts. A final count will come in December.

At CREWNY, no matter how tough things are, it's members are generous and warm-hearted. Thank you all for giving!

The Registry for gift-giving is open until Wednesday, November 25th!!!

CREWNY Social Equity Trust
CREW New York’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Taskforce has established the first Social Equity Trust.

On October 2, 2020, CREW NY held the first gathering of its Social Equity Trust, a think tank intently focused on charting new pathways toward achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Commercial Real Estate industry.

The list of invitees to this event was carefully curated to form a diverse group of leaders and stakeholders in NYC government, public & private corporations, RE & AEC industry and community associations.

Our intention was to gather this distinctive group of Thought Leaders to mirror the demographics of NYC as closely as possible in gender, ethnicity, sexuality, race, and other dimensions of the diversity wheel. By sharing diversity goals, challenges and triumphs, our Thought Leaders are supporting each other and others in pursuit of true Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Commercial Real Estate and society at large.
