CREWS PREPARE TO REOPEN ROUTE 301 (SKIPPERS ROAD) BRIDGE THIS WEEKEND
Crews will implement a detour for all
traffic while the temporary bridge structures are removed.
GREENSVILLE COUNTY - Crews will begin work Saturday, Jan. 23 to reopen the approach roadway and bridge on Route 301 (Skippers Road) over Fountains Creek in Greensville County which has been closed due to damage following a crash on Dec. 24, 2020.

To allow the heavy equipment maneuvering necessary to remove the temporary bridge retaining walls, a signed detour will be in place on Route 301 from the North Carolina state line to Route 629 (Moore's Ferry Road) for all traffic beginning Jan. 23 at 8 a.m. and continuing until 8 p.m. on Jan. 24.  Motorists should utilize Interstate 95 as an alternate route.

The road is expected to re-open to two-way traffic no later than the evening of Jan. 24.

The two-lane bridge located on Route 301, in the vicinity of Route 618 (Milestown Road), sustained 80 feet of damage to the bridge's retaining concrete barrier that protects vehicles from the water below. This damage, resulting from a vehicle crash, required VDOT to close the road initially and then implement one-way reduced traffic controls to ensure motorist safety while repairs were completed.
