Spring 2024 Newsletter

Hello Tim,

The 2024 Capital Region Food Program (CRFP) Holiday Project successfully served nearly 2,000 families in Concord and the surrounding 17 communities. In our second year formally adopting our new voucher format, we continue to receive incredibly positive feedback about the flexibility and accessibility of this model.

As individuals navigate changes to federal resources, many anticipate state resources to be unable to fill new gaps. CRFP will continue to monitor the changing landscape and is ready to support individuals and families.

Our Year Round Distribution Project (YRDP) continues to provide supplemental food supplies to about 30 food pantries and social service agencies, helping to supply about 5,000 meals per month to families in need of assistance. Since January, we have seen a 6% increase in participation in our monthly distribution along with a 10% increase in the cost. We expect this increase to continue through the remainder of 2025.

For more than 50 years, the CRFP has remained dedicated to reducing hunger for those facing food insecurity in our community. These efforts would not be possible without the ongoing commitment of our many volunteers, contributors, agency partners and community supporters who helped feed approximately 7,000 individuals this holiday season and assisting over 8,000 individuals through our YRDP partner agencies during the calendar year.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for your continued support!

A Look at the 2024 Holiday Project

The feedback from the recipients again this year was extremely positive and appreciative of the ability to personally select items that best fit their family's needs. Recipients were able to redeem their vouchers between December 14, 2024, and January 31, 2025, at local Market Basket locations.

While we were prepared to deliver vouchers for about 2,124 families, over 94% were successfully distributed. The undeliverable vouchers were due to changing circumstances for some families and others had moved away.

Thank you for the continued support to assist those faced with food insecurities over the holiday season.

What started out as a small initiative turned into the Havenwood-Heritage Heights’ Angels of Hope, where the residents, staff and administration donated food and funds to support the CRFP Holiday Project.

Year Round Distribution Project Steps Up During Difficult Times

Due to recent priorities and swift actions from the new federal administration that are putting strain on food programs in the Greater Concord area, CRFP is preparing to support the increasing needs from our partner agencies and recipients through the Year Round Distribution Program (YRDP).

From 2023 to 2024, YRDP costs for supplemental food have nearly doubled due to inflation and increased participation from partner agencies. We expect this to continue increasing going into 2025.

In Memoriam

Lee Lajoie – It was with great sadness that we learned of our dear friend and dedicated volunteer, Lee Lajoie, who passed away on December 24, 2024. Over the years, Lee would be seen volunteering and supervising the construction of the standard boxes of the CRFP Holiday Food Basket Project. Lee always was positive and patient, with an exceptional talent for managing the process with flawless execution and a great sense of humor.

Doug Finney – We also mourn the recent passing on March 4, 2025 of another friend and dedicated volunteer, Doug Finney. Doug was a critical volunteer who served behind the scenes and arranged for special equipment and operational support for the CRFP Holiday Food Basket Project. Always willing and able, Doug made things happen in his quiet, get it done way.

Both their contributions, commitment, and support were integral to our success. We are grateful for their time, talent, and commitment. May their memories be eternal.
