The Results Are In . . . Membership Survey Overview!
Hello to all CRGC Members,
As many of you know, the 2020 Operating Board put together 1-3 and 5-year plans to continue the Crow River Golf Club’s highly regarded and appreciated golf course conditions, food quality, service to the membership, programs offered, as well as other amenities we can offer the membership to retain and entice more potential members in our community.
The next step was to create a survey for the members to access member satisfaction and to help establish priorities for the 1,3, 5-year plans. We had over 100 responses to the survey, providing valuable information. Here are some of the highlights of the study:
90% of respondents are satisfied or very satisfied with CRGC overall and feel that the golf experience is the main driver for that rating.
Overall, respondents were satisfied with the course conditions, with the exception of the tee boxes.
73% of respondents indicated an interest in more year-round events and dining options.
Responses show that we have work to do with the availability of the Snack Shack and offerings available on the course.
95% of respondents feel that they are "in the know" based on our communication methods, due largely to emails from Tom and the newsletter.
Many people are not aware of the new CRGC app. We hope to continue to raise awareness of the benefits it has and encourage members to download and use it.
The response to “What do you like most about CRGC?” were some of our favorites because members celebrate their fellow members and how each of you contributes to making CRGC the best it can be.
Reversing the nines survey results . . .
This topic was the one that motivated the Operating Board to put the survey together. When dealing with the club history and how the golf course is routed and played for years, the Board knew how important that history is to the membership and wanted to collect data. We needed to test how members felt about playing or starting from ten tee instead of one tee.
Members and guests have been great sports on starting on the number ten tee most of the year and are becoming more accustomed to it. However, it remains a bit confusing to discuss your round with a friend and write down your score on the wrong side of the scorecard.
The results showed that the reversal of the nines saw a higher satisfaction level than dissatisfaction overall.
So we will make a move in 2022 to reverse the nines.
The Data:
If you line up revenue totals from 2019 versus 2021 (2020 COVID), we saw a 43% improvement in food sales and a 31% in beverage sales in Tavern '38 when reversing the nines. We also received favorable responses to access to clubhouse amenities at the turn. However, the most important statistic is how you felt about the nines being changed. It was so great to see the passion in our members from both sides on how you thought about this topic. You care, and you care about CRGC, and ultimately, that's what is important.
The word cloud below gives an idea of what you feel makes CRGC so enjoyable to be a part of. Thanks to each of you who took the time to fill out the survey, as this type of feedback will continue to make this club great. If you would like to sit down and discuss any aspect of the survey, please let me know.
See you down the middle,
Tom
A great group of Ladies came out Sept 21 for the Ladies Day season finale - Glow Ball 9-Hole Scramble! It was an evening spent with good friends, food and lots of fun. Thanks to the Ladies’ Day committee and the Crow River staff for making it such a fun event!
Shop Credit or "Gifties"
If you have shop credit or "gifties," they will expire at the end of the month.
As a reminder, if you've won shop credit this year, please make sure you spend it all up by Monday, October 31st, because it disappears in our point-of-sale system on November 1st.
If you can't find anything in the shop, I can special order products as well. As long as the transaction is made in October, it's all good.

Hitting the “punch-shot” through the trees, the must-have shot at CRGC
The golf course is beautiful here at Crow River Golf Club, and part of that beauty is the trees that line the fairways. They give the course definition and help route the golf holes. However, it can be a pain in the neck to get out of them and back in the fairway. So here are some tips for hitting that punch shot that gets your ball back in play or up near the green to save your par.
The first two steps to execute this shot are in the pre-shot setup:
Select a club with less loft, so if you planned on hitting a 7-iron, hit a 5-iron
Choke down 2 inches on your grip and play the ball back in your stance, 2-4 inches.
Two more steps, these for in-swing:
This is not a full swing shot. Take the club halfway back and make sure your shoulders go with you.
You do not follow through as you do with a normal golf swing. The clubhead should not go past the waistline at the finish. This motion will ensure the hands are leading the clubhead into the ball and keeping it low.
By going through these steps and making sure the swings' motion is nice and smooth, you'll be able to keep it low, get it back out in the fairway, and lower your score.
