10th Annual Second Chance Golf Tournament One for the Record Books
Charity Tournament Raised Over $29,000 to Help Pets Get the Care they Need
EAST BROOKFIELD, MA (August 8, 2022) – Second Chance Animal Services hosted a record-breaking 123 golfers at their 10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament last month at Cold Spring Country Club in Belchertown. Golfers were in great spirits, despite the rain, and one lucky golfer made a hole in one to win $4,000 towards a pool or spa from Teddy Bear Pools & Spas of Chicopee. The fundraising event raised over $29,000 which will benefit programs assisting the underserved at Second Chance’s veterinary hospitals.
The event’s organizers were thrilled by the show of support, not only by the golfers but also by all the community businesses who helped make the event possible. Second Chance CEO and founder Sheryl Blancato said, “this is our largest golf tournament to date. We are so very grateful to our sponsors including our Putting Green Sponsor, Affordable Waste Solutions of Hampden.”
Blancato added that this year was the first time in the tournament’s history that a golfer scored a hole in one on the Teddy Bear Pools and Spas hole. “Teddy Bear Pools and Spas has sponsored the hole-in-one contest for many years and has been a long-time supporter of Second Chance.”
Ted Hebert, the owner of Teddy Bear Pools & Spas, said, “We are overjoyed that there was a hole in one winner at the annual Second Chance Golf Tournament. The winner, Michael, has won $4000 off the purchase of any pool or spa.” Hebert encouraged others to help pets by making a donation to Second Chance. “Be kind to our furry friends because they make all our lives better.”
Golfers enjoyed hot dogs, snacks, and a box lunch on the course in addition to beer tastings from local breweries. The day wrapped up back at the club house where a buffet meal was served while the fundraising auction and raffles closed and prizes were awarded for the challenges and top teams.
Blancato said the tournament's success could not come at a better time. “The need is truly great right now. Our Community Veterinary Hospitals in Springfield, Worcester, Southbridge, and North Brookfield are a lifeline for pets here in our community. We know that budgets are very tight right now. The subsidized rates we offer help keep pets out of shelters and with the people they love. We couldn’t do it without supporters like the tournament’s golfers and sponsors.
The Second Chance Golf Tournament committee expressed their gratitude to everyone who made the event a success, including volunteers and the staff at Cold Spring. Next year’s tournament returns to Cold Spring Country Club on Monday, July 24th.

Teen Suicide Awareness Charity Dance-a-thon
Friday, September 9, 2022, 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Dance the night away for a very important cause! Suicide has hit so many families and sadly the suicide rate is the highest in teens and young adults. According to UCLA Health Connect, nearly 20% of high school students report serious thoughts of suicide with 9% of them attempting to take their lives. It is the second-leading cause of death among people ages 15-24.
We invite all to join us in a Dance-a-thon with all proceeds given to the charity Samaritans. Samaritans provides lifesaving suicide prevention services throughout Greater Boston, MetroWest, and across Massachusetts. Their services are free, confidential, and nonjudgmental.
Come join us to help create awareness and show these young people that they all have so much to live for! This is not a dance competition, but a fun freestyle dance for any age teen to adults! If you want to dance you can get sponsored for an amount for every song you are able to dance to. Spectators are also welcome to join and support the cause!
We will have raffles, music by DJ Mendez, and BT’s Smokehouse Food Truck to keep you energized!
To see event details on Facebook, click the flyer.
COST: $20 for spectators and dancers, get your sponsors! Tickets can be purchased at the door with cash.
