Bringing people together in Christ so lives are changed and communities enhanced.
Crossways Connections
2017 August Issue
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. (Isaiah 43:2)

Last week we concluded the last of our on-site programs for the 2017 summer season. Nine weeks of Superman graces, Gospel Lights, and buddy checks. Nine weeks of cabin devotions and highs and lows before bedtime. Nine weeks of learning about Jesus' love and sacrifice and how the water of life nourishes our body and our soul.

Indeed, when we passed through rough waters this summer God was with us!

When storms arose, God was there: campers and staff were always safe! When campers grew homesick, God was there: staff were present, caring, kind, and thoughtful. When groups became stuck in a certain low ropes challenge course element, or a camper needed an extra "boost" to make it up the rock wall, God was there: staff and campers learned how to be faith-filled problem-solvers and cheerleaders for each other.

You may recall that Crossways recently participated in a study called The Effective Camp Research Project. It's purpose was to identify the effects, the impact, and the reach of a faith-based camp experience. Last year we learned that faith-based camp is powerful because it is Relational, Participatory, Different From Home, A Safe Space, and Faith-Centered.  This year we learned just how powerful - following a week of camp the majority of campers:
  • Felt strengthened in their faith,
  • Experienced first-hand the unconditional love of Jesus through the kind and caring attention of our staff,
  • Grew in self-confidence,
  • Came away with a strong desire to increase their involvement in their home church or local faith community.

(Of course, we discovered a whole host of other great benefits and effects of camp. To read the results of the study, CLICK HERE!)

To sum up, this summer proved to us again (and again and again) that God is ever-present in our work at camp. Camping ministry is vitally important to the faith lives of young and old alike!

We are blessed to be able to God's work at Imago Dei Village, Pine Lake Camp, Waypost, and at our Day Camps (and at our administrative office in Appleton, too!).

From the bottom of all our hearts, THANK YOU for supporting the mission of Crossways this summer. Most importantly, thank you to God our Creator, Jesus our Savior, and the Holy Spirit our Sustainer for guiding us, redeeming us, and keeping us going. Praise God for another transformation summer of camping ministry!

Belay on,

Speaking of Boats...
Thank you for our new kayaks at Pine Lake and our new pontoon boat at Imago Dei Village!
This summer, Wanda Fischer and Mary Lindsley of Trinity Lutheran Church, Appleton, organized two brat frys to raise money for "Kayaks for Kamp!" Because of their hard work and the support of volunteers who spread the word and staffed the events, as well as patrons who came out to enjoy a tasty meal, enough money was raised to purchase six 12-foot kayaks for Pine Lake Camp! These beauties are being delivered to Pine Lake this week and we can't wait to get them on the water. Thank you Wanda, Mary, Trinity Lutheran of Appleton, and everyone else for your great support of this endeavor! Paddle on!

In May we had to say goodbye to our old pontoon boat at Imago Dei Village. Thanks to generous donations from longtime supporters and family campers we were able to purchase a new (gently used) pontoon boat for Imago Dei! It's beautiful and makes a great addition to our waterfront. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.
Our good friends at Good Shepherd (Green Bay), Bethel (Green Bay), and Peace (Pulaski) are hosting another Bike for Crossways event this fall! This exciting ride is taking place Sunday, September 17.
