Why does Crossways "need" a Capital Campaign, anyway?

This question comes up these days as we continue work on our first major capital campaign since 1992. Can you believe that - 1992! It is
time to upgrade our facilities and program equipment so we can provide year-round, quality facilities and programs for people of all ages.

Roni Loos, Campaign Co-chair said it best: “If we can’t provide an environment when they come to camp where people feel comfortable and blessed then they aren’t going to come”.

Another essential need is to ensure that the ministry of Crossways Camping Ministries are sustainable. The campaign will provide not only capital improvements but 10% of what is raised will go directly to our Endowment Fund. Ten percent of our Base Goal of $1.8 million will provide
$180,000 to the fund and will generate approximately $9,000 (or 5% interest) annually for camperships, programming and staff training opportunities.

We are not only building facilities but also disciples for the ministry of the Church. One study concluded that 62% of ELCA seminarians attended or worked at a Lutheran camp. If you ask rostered leaders they will likely tell you that Bible Camp had a profound influence on their “Call to Ministry”. The Church needs outdoor ministry to ensure that we will have rostered leaders and lay staff for our congregations.

Please help us by providing a gift to the “Rooted in Faith, Growing to Serve” Capital Campaign to sustain this essential ministry in the Church. After only three months we are at $418,627 in pledges and gifts (23% of the Base Goal). Gifts can be made online by visiting or by calling Jake Czarnik-Neimeyer at the Crossways Administrative Office: 920-882-0023.

God bless you for your continued support of this valuable ministry for all ages at Imago Dei Village, Pine Lake Camp, and Waypost.

In Christ’s Service,
Jake Czarnik-Neimeyer

Last month a dedicated group of Crossways supporters hosted a brat fry fundraiser to raise money for fishing equipment at Pine Lake Camp. The previous year, they did the same thing to raise money for kayaks. Another group plans a hosts an annual bike ride fundraiser (see our Save the Date note above!) as a benefit for our camps. Want to know what they all have in common, besides a love for Jesus and for Crossways? They were all Thrivent Action Teams!

Thrivent Action Teams work by Thrivent members identifying a need in their community - or at a camp... - and getting a plan and a team together to meet that need! Whether is a fundraiser, a service project, or an educational event, as long as it can be completed within 90 days it can be eligible. Once approved, Thrivent provides teams with $250 of seed money and team t-shirts, along with a banner and thank-you cards for after your event.

If you're interested in learning more about how an action team could benefit Crossways, please contact us! We have some ideas. And if you have some ideas, let us know those as well! Click here to learn more about Thrivent Action Teams .
