All Around at Crossways Camps, I'm Gonna Let It Shine (hey, hey, hey!)

Our summer staff gathered at Pine Lake for "All Staff Training" May 31-June 2. It was incredible to see the young adults who accepted God's call to serve with us at Crossways this summer. They come from all over the world and yet join together in Christ for a summer of ministry, forming one team at multiple sites (our three camps PLUS all of our day camp sites!).

Pastor Jenn Collins of Saint Andrew Lutheran Church (Wausau) and Pastor John Worzala-Dumke of Luther Memorial Church (Madison) joined us on June 2 to lead our commissioning service. Our gospel text was a familiar one - Luke 24:13-35, the walk to Emmaus. Pastor Jenn's message reminded us that God's grace is the ultimate game changer. And by joining together to share in Holy Communion, we were fed and nourished, equipped and sent for the work that is to come this summer.

Of course, our camp commissioning service was filled with camp songs. Here's a clip of a long-time favorite, "Gospel Light," - a classic sending song:
And here's another clip of what turned out to be an a capella rendition of "Open the Eyes of my Heart". Sometimes the crowd doesn't listen to the guitar player and just chooses their own key. It's a good thing that at camp we're pretty good at going with the flow and following where the Spirit leads.
The young adults serving at our camps - Imago Dei Village, Pine Lake Camp, Waypost, and on Day Camps - are truly incredible. Please keep them in your prayers this summer as they show and share the love of Jesus with all of our campers. And pray that they, too, experience the transformative love in new and powerful ways!

After all, as we know, this changes everything!

With only 9 more days until the official start of summer we need your help to finish our 2018 Spring Appeal strong! We set a God sized goal for our spring campaign this year and have been generously blessed by Crossways’ friends, supporters, volunteers, and staff, but we are not done yet. We would love for you to prayerfully consider a gift to Crossways Camping Ministries.

Your support will help us continue to provide amazing camp experiences as well as offer help to children
and families who would otherwise not be able to have this opportunity. As an organization, we recently
celebrated 75 years in ministry. Yet, like those who started this ministry and others who have helped it
grow to what it is today, we need to continue to seek God’s direction and calling and explore new and
creative ways to serve God’s people and church. The funds raised during this appeal will provide much
needed support for programs and outreach.

Can we count on you to help us achieve our goal? We hope so, because in doing so, we will be able to
continue to bring even more people together in Christ so lives are changed and communities enhanced.
THANK YOU for all you do for Crossways Camping Ministries! We are truly blessed by you.

The 2017-2018 season of interns was a full and filling one! Throughout the course of the season, personal, professional, and faith development flourished as interns faced tasks with autonomy, motivation, and a wider perspective of outdoor ministry (both indicated in their program feedback and evident by observation). Some of the specific areas the interns grew were in written and phone communication skills, schedule coordination, self-evaluation, confidence, emergency response, Bible study facilitation, team-building facilitation, public relations/social media, and the understanding of community in a rural camp setting. The interns hosted many of our wonderful guests who visit us in our “second season” (fall, winter, and spring), participated in and led church visits, and worked on various projects related to their gifts, benefiting all three sites, as well as Crossways as a whole. ( Click here to see snippets of their program testimonies .)

Do you know someone looking to serve during a gap year? Know someone looking to learn more about congregational or outdoor ministry? Be sure to tell them about our Servant-Leader Internship Program. We are still accepting applications for the 2018-2019 season!

Visit our Servant Leader Internship Program webpage for more details or contact Becca Mortensen, Program Coordinator: (715)258-3813 or  becca@crosswayscamps.org .
After only two months in the "silent phase" of the Capital Campaign, we have already received 15 one-time gifts and 18 pledges totaling  $318,975 (nearly 18%   of our base goal of $1.8 million) . The "silent phase" represents a time when we are meeting one-on-one with individual donors.

In January we will begin the "Congregational Phase" of the campaign with participating congregations giving members an opportunity to make individual gifts to Crossways' "Rooted In Faith, Growing to Serve" campaign. More information to follow about this important phase of the campaign. Pastors and Council presidents are encouraged to return the Council Visit Request Forms to the Crossways Administrative Office by  June 20th.

Gifts can be made online by visiting  www.crosswayscamps.org/campaign  or by calling Jake Czarnik-Neimeyer at 920-882-0023 at the Crossways Administrative Office.

God bless you for your continued support of this valuable ministry for all ages at Imago Dei Village, Pine Lake Camp, and Waypost.
