Registration Renewal Reminder

The deadline for RP, RP (Qualifying), and RP (Inactive) registrants to complete renewal is approaching! Registration renewal for registrants in these categories is due by 5:00 p.m. ET on March 31, 2025.

The renewal form is available on the “Renewal” page of your user account. The last step in the form will be payment of the annual registration fee and you will be prompted to pay by Visa, MasterCard or Discover directly through your account.

Any registrant who has not completed their renewal by 5:00 p.m. ET on March 31 will be required to pay a late fee of $150 +HST.

If you don’t intend to renew and would like to resign your registration with CRPO, please go to the “Transfer request” page in your CRPO account and submit the resignation form.

You can read more about this year’s renewal process, including an instructional video and frequently asked questions, on the Annual Registration Renewal Information page. For assistance with login issues, please see the Managing Your CRPO User Account page.

Registrant Safety

CRPO’s standards focus on the duties registrants have toward clients and the public. The Standards can also support registrants in taking steps to address their own safety. Consider the example of a current or prospective client sexually harassing a registrant.

The Commentary to Standard 6.3 explains there are several legitimate reasons for discontinuing services, including risk of harm, therapy not benefiting the client, or the client’s needs being outside the scope of competence of the registrant.

Standard 3.1 and CRPO’s Guideline on Disclosing Information to Prevent Harm explain the exceptional circumstances in which a registrant is permitted to disclose otherwise confidential information.

Registrants can employ a diligent intake process, before agreeing to begin treatment, to ensure there is a match between what prospective clients are seeking and what the therapist can offer.

In many situations, the line between a challenging versus dangerous situation will not be crossed. Registrants will be capable of working through issues using communication, consulting with peers or supervisors as needed. Registrants will need to discern those rare situations where the line has been crossed, knowing there are tools and options available.

Use of Psychology Wording

We have updated our Practice Matters article on use of title to provide clarity around limits to using the terms “psychology” and “psychological”. Visit our website for more information.

March Town Hall

CRPO has been hosting virtual town hall meetings since last April to engage with registrants on a variety of topics. If you missed any of the previous town halls, recordings are available on our website.

On Monday, March 31 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET, CRPO staff will be hosting a town hall where we will discuss Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts at the College. We will provide an update on the work CRPO is doing to ensure that the principles of DEI inform the work of public protection.

The town hall will be held virtually, and you can sign in using this link:

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84708961040?pwd=tNGoVTL3C1922RCH7k2M5bDTgK0arc.1

Before the session, please take a few minutes to let us know what questions you would like us to answer about the above topic. You can access this pre-town hall survey using this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QPM6YBD. The survey will close March 26 and responses received will be integrated into the presentation if possible.

Council Elections

On March 31, 2025, we will begin accepting nominations from RPs in the following districts to serve on CRPO Council.

  • District 7 (Central) (2 positions)
  • District 8 (Ontario) (1 position)

Serving on Council provides registrants with the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to public protection
  • Influence the future of the profession
  • Bring unique perspectives to the Council table
  • Meet other RPs with different experiences

To submit your nomination, download and complete all required sections of the Candidate Nomination Package by April 30, 2025, at 12:00 noon ET. Nomination packages received after the deadline and packages that are incomplete will not be accepted.

For more information on CRPO elections, please visit our website.

Peer Circles: Professional Development Opportunity

Are you interested in meeting with your peers to discuss case studies and ethical dilemmas? CRPO is hosting two peer circle events this Spring for professionals to discuss case studies based on the revised Professional Practice Standards.

Peer circles, facilitated by RPs, provide a safe environment to explore grey areas and ask questions. Participation can count towards your Quality Assurance Program requirements.

While these events are hosted by CRPO, staff will not be present, allowing for a collaborative and supportive environment led by your peers.

Call for CBA Case Developers

The case-based assessment (CBA) is the cornerstone of CRPO’s Quality Assurance Program. Members of the profession develop and validate the cases used in the CBA.

CRPO is excited to announce a call for RPs to participate in a new phase of case development. Participation will involve preparing for and attending a series of workshops in the coming months. More information about time commitment can be found in the application form survey linked at the end of this notice. RPs who are selected to participate in the project will be remunerated at the rate of Council, as outlined in CRPO's per diem policy.

To enhance its impacts through DEI-informed approaches, CRPO is committed to integrating perspectives of communities that face individual and systemic discrimination, barriers and inequities. Meaningful inclusion of diverse and intersectional identities (including but not limited to identities protected under the Ontario Human Rights Code like race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, etc.) is key to this and so we are eager to recruit from across the registrant base for this work.

We encourage bilingual Registered Psychotherapists to apply. The case development workshops are conducted in English; however, all of the cases will be translated to French. Bilingual applicants play a crucial role in ensuring the cases are clear and straightforward and written using language that can be translated easily.

Any RP with at least 5 years’ experience in the profession may apply. To express your interest in this project and apply, please click the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2025CBACD

Your Success in the CBA Matters More than You Think | Addressing the Feedback: Is the CBA a Waste of Time?

The QA Program supports life-long learning, a critical component of providing safe and effective care. The case-based assessment (CBA) serves as the first stage of a peer and practice review (PPR), providing valuable insights into a registrant’s ability to interpret and demonstrate the standards of practice in their practice. It is designed to encourage registrants to be self-reflective and think critically about their practice, their professional growth, and their obligations as regulated health professionals.

Beyond Individual Outcomes: Why the CBA Matters

Some registrants who have completed the CBA successfully have questioned its value, stating that they did not necessarily learn anything new. If they were ‘successful,’ was the CBA necessary at all? Read more here.

For CRPO registrants: Please do not unsubscribe. CRPO uses email to communicate with registrants about important College updates. If you choose to unsubscribe, it is then your responsibility to regularly check our website to keep yourself informed about your College obligations. It is the responsibility of each registrant to make sure CRPO has your current contact information, updated within 30 days of a change, and ensure that the organization you work for does not block CRPO emails. CRPO may collect information about whether a recipient has read a message. CRPO may use this information for communication planning and record-keeping.
