Member Newsletter - February 2025

Volume 5, Issue 2

A Message from Jen Belnap, CRWF President

CRWF Members and Associates,

February is a festive month for us! We celebrate Presidents Day to honor our nation’s first president, George Washington, whose birthday was February 22nd, as well as another beloved president, Abraham Lincoln, born on February 12th. Washington and Lincoln served as president during two momentous times in our nation’s history: during the birth of our nation, having successfully separated from England; and during the Civil War, when we were divided so deeply that we shed the blood of our brothers to bring about freedom for all. How fortunate we are to have such strong examples of principled leadership during incredibly challenging times. The return of President Donald Trump to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue ensures that leadership and strength are back in the White House once again.

We also celebrate the Centennial of the California Federation of Republican Women this year! 100 years ago, our state formed a club that aimed to “promote a wider knowledge of principles and policies of the Republican Party. Its goal, also, was to cooperate with the County and State Central committees to help elect Republican candidates to office.” CRWF continues that mission today! Thank you for all that you do to promote Republican principles and to elect Republicans to office. None of the work we do is possible without the talents and contributions of all of our members.

As always, there’s more work to do! Our job is never done. So, take your vitamins and a brief rest. The 2026 election cycle is right around the corner!

In Service,

Jen Belnap

Carlsbad Republican Women (CRWF) welcomes Historical Impressionist, Peter M. Small, portraying George Washington, and Amy Reichart, local Republican activist!

“George Washington”

At the February 25th meeting, Carlsbad Republican Women (CRWF) celebrates President George Washington’s birthday with a very special guest speaker! Historical impressionist, Peter M. Small, portrays the Father of Our Country, George Washington, as he separates fact from myth about his life from chopping down the cherry tree to the struggle for independence and the foundation of our republic. Please join us for this intriguing, but fun, performance on February 25th.

This portrayal grew out of Mr. Small’s love for history, while he taught history in the greater Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. areas. He has performed for a wide range of national audiences, including the Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Herbert Hoover, and George Bush Presidential Libraries and the History Channel. Peter Small believes that it is people who make history happen!

Amy Reichart

Amy Reichert is a San Diego leader, nonprofit founder, and Republican activist dedicated to government accountability, parental rights, and public safety. She founded ReOpen San Diego to fight for individual freedoms and chairs the Restore San Diego PAC to support candidates who put people first. Elected to the Republican Central Committee with the most votes in District 4, she now serves as Caucus Chair and a member of the Executive Committee. With a background in ministry and a passion for truth, Amy spills the tea on local politics to her 45,000 followers at [@amyforsandiego] and 23,00O followers on @X! On February 25th, Amy will address the San Diego County Board of Supervisors race to fill the open District 1 seat and why John McCann, currently mayor of Chula Vista, is the ideal candidate!

CRWF will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the California Federation of Republican Women (CFRW)! Our special guests include Lydia Kanno, CFRW President, and Bibi Mesmer, District 9 Regional Director! We look forward to welcoming both Lydia and Bibi to help us celebrate!

GOAL SETTING in 2025!!

President Trump has taken charge and is busy fulfilling his campaign promises to us. YOU TOO can continue to make a difference in this coming year by getting fully engaged with programs identified by the Carlsbad Republican Women Federated Action Team!

Let’s start with Voter ID and how we can work this year to make it a law in California. Ballotpedia says, “as of November 2024, 35 States require voters to present identification in order to vote at the polls on Election Day”. With the influx of undocumented immigrants Voter ID in California is a necessity to assure our elections are honest. Join our team to collect signatures and get Voter ID on the ballot in 2026.

Ready to tackle the buildup of Republican Voters in San Diego County? This movement has already started!!  Last year, the Report of Registration published by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters had a surprising Republican up tick! We in San Diego County had an increase of 110,000 registered voters, boosting us over the 2 M mark and, a “whopping 38,000” were Republicans!!

Left on their own, people don’t seem to worry about their voter registration until an election year! And mostly the Presidential Election! Sign up with our CRWF Action Team to engage with people “Face to Face” to talk about their voter registration status and get them registered as a Republican.

Learn more about the San Diego County Central Committee and volunteer your help.

CRWF is on the Move!

Judy OConnor, 4th VP – Election Integrity / Voter Registration

Reform California is mailing out over 100,000 letters, making people aware of the importance of Voter ID in California. We hosted a very successful mailing party after the January meeting to support this cause. Thank you to everyone who donated their time to this cause.

NEXT MAILING PARTY

Friday, February 14 - 10:00am to 1:00pm

HELP GET A CONSERVATIVE ELECTED FOR COUNTY SUPERVISOR

John McCann is running for county supervisor in District 1 to replace Nora Vargas, who vacated this seat. John is currently mayor of Chula Vista and is endorsed by the Republican Party. District 1 is south San Diego County. It is not our district, but it is so important to get this conservative elected to this position that CRWF will be working to support John.

Ballots will be mailed March 10th, and voting ends April 8th. CRWF will be supporting John McCann with mailings and phone calls. Please watch your emails for details to get involved.

FIRST FUNDRAISER: A SUCCESS!

A special thank you to Natilee Meacham for hosting an impressive wine-tasting party in January. The savory food Natilee provided was second to none. Thank you also to Donn Rutkoff, AKA “Man About Wine,” for donating all the wine and explaining the red wine in thought-provoking detail. A special time was had by all! Stay tuned for future events, you won’t want to miss it.

Teri House, Legislation Chair

The CRFW Legislative Team will be working hard this year to keep our club members up to date with proposed legislation that can be affected by our activism. The legislative team members are: Teri House, Dawn Dickinson, Nerissa Zhang, Brita Lindstrom.

At the January meeting we celebrated the many activities the Trump Administration is having. Still, we need to remain vigilant on so many issues.

Sadly, the California legislature passed a $50 million legal aid package to fund lawsuits against the Trump administration. This passed strictly on a party-line vote. Half of the money is for the state attorney general for court battles. The other $25 million is for nonprofits to defend residents facing detention or deportation as a result of federal actions.

Water will continue to be a legislative battle within our state. Since Trump opened the spigot to let the water flow to Southern California, already criticism has been deep and abundant. We will keep an eye on this issue.

Education, women’s health issues, business development are issues your legislative team plans to focus on in 2025. We look forward to serving you.
