A Message from your CRYA Standing Committee:

Welcome to the 2026 boating season.

On behalf of the Columbia River Yachting Association (CRYA), we’d like to reflect on who we are and the role we all play across this community.

Founded in 1933, CRYA brings together more than 19 member clubs and over 2,000 boaters across the region. In addition to coordinating cruise schedules and events like Opening Day, CRYA serves as a liaison with the Oregon State Marine Board and other agencies, helping to advocate for improved facilities, support safety education, and represent the interests of recreational boaters throughout Oregon’s waterways.

Boaters in our region benefit from strong support for facilities and access, but maintaining and improving that access requires coordination and a unified voice. CRYA plays an important role in representing that voice on behalf of our member clubs and the broader boating community.

Over the past several months, CRYA partnered with the Oregon State Marine Board and other stakeholders to help preserve the dock at Hadley’s Landing. What began as a potential decommissioning became a coordinated effort to maintain access for the boating community, with a funded path forward now in place.

As we look ahead, CRYA continues to support safe, coordinated, and accessible boating, including ongoing conversations around Schwitter’s Landing and other shared resources along the river.

As one of the many benefits of being part of a CRYA member club, we maintain a shared dock at Martin Slough for use by our member clubs and their guests.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping steward this shared resource and look forward to seeing everyone on the water this season.

TYEE Yacht Club Open Invitation for

Opening Day Practice Run

Hello everyone,

As we get closer to Opening Day on the Columbia River, Tyee Yacht Club will be running a practice of the parade route on April 18th, and we would love to see boats from other clubs join us.

Our goal is to give captains and crews a chance to get comfortable with the route, spacing, and general flow before the big day. It is also a great opportunity for newer participants to experience the parade format without the pressure of the actual event.

Tyee’s plan for the morning is:

• Meet at our clubhouse at 8:00 AM

• Quick overview of the route and expectations

• Assign positions and answer questions

• Depart around 8:45 to 9:00 AM

Each club may want to consider doing something similar with their crews so everyone is prepared before getting underway.

We suggest that participating boats meet up near the channel entrance of North Portland Harbor so we can organize the group and begin the practice run together.

This will be a relaxed run through the route. No pressure, no docking drills, just a chance to get out on the water and make sure everyone feels comfortable before Opening Day.

If your club plans to participate, please feel free to reply and let me know.

Looking forward to seeing everyone out on the water.

Opening Day - May 2nd - "Spring into Boating"

Our Judging Committee is set. Our Opening Day Parade Marshal will be Kat Pettersen of TYEE Yacht Club. She was instrumental in helping to get our first Vancouver Waterfront Parade created.

We have completed the Fleet Captains Meeting and have everything ready to go for the Judges and Review boats. We should see the Fire Boats on the water as well. The above Poster as well as flyers are being distributed to the Vancouver Waterfront businesses so it should be a great turnout.

If there are any remaining questions please let us know. We can be reached at Info@crya.us.

Please Share your boating Stories of Interest to our team to Share with others. Club things, Community Boating Things, Personal Boating Stories. Many things are of interest so Please Share!

We can't see every club's internal communication, but we have to think some of the articles would be great information for all boaters. If you find that article of interest, please forward it to cryanews@gmail.com after getting approval to share. We can all be more informed.
