Sheffield Marine Propeller is a longtime supporter of CRYA with past sponsorships of our Golf Tournament, our first advertiser on the Marine Services Directory page as well as a history of being involved with the organization. Walt Sheffield who founded Sheffield Marine Propellers was the CRYA President representing Vancouver Yacht Club in 1972! His daughter Kim Sheffield-Remsing who is the owner now was a Daughter of Neptune in 1983.

Please let them know when you see them how much CRYA appreciates their generosity towards our organization and the work we do to make boating a better experience for everyone.

The Average Bridge lift is 8 Minutes. Find out more about the Bridge Tenders in Multnomah County!

A recent article in the OPB News Feed gives some insight as to what is going on with bridge lifts, as well as the qualifications needed to become a bridge lift operator. It interviews Ayasha Ghazoul who is the bridge operations coordinator for Multnomah County. For the complete interview and story, you can find it Here

From BoatUS:

National Women’s Sailing Association to Host 2024 Conference

Saturday, June 8, in New Orleans

Ticket sales open March 16

The National Women’s Sailing Association (NWSA) comes to the Crescent City with the 2024 National Women’s Sailing Association Conference on Saturday, June 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Southern Yacht Club with help from Community Sailing New Orleans. The all-day event welcomes women sailors of all levels and ages to workshops including the popular “Take the Helm” track — an introduction to sailing for women. A sailing scholarship fundraising mixer will be held after the conference to continue networking.

Programming includes a full day of classroom, dockside and on-the-water workshops taught by experienced female instructors and captains from across the country. Sailors can fine-tune their spinnaker sail trim skills, practice navigation using paper and electronic charts, learn how to recover a crew overboard with a Lifesling rescue device, and more. Breakfast and lunch are provided as well as a cocktail social hour.

A highlight of the event is the announcement and presentation of the 2024 BoatUS/NWSA Leadership in Women’s Sailing Award. The annual award recognizes an individual with a record of achievement in inspiring, educating and enriching the lives of women through sailing.

Some of the event’s sponsors include BoatUS, Offshore Sailing School, Louisiana Sailing School and Mantus Marine.

Early-bird registration opens Sunday, March 16, and offers the best registration value. After April 14, general registration rates apply. Details can be found on womensailing.org. For more information, email conference@womensailing.org or call (985) 247-8919.

Do you have Trouble getting Current and Quality

River Level Information?

Get the free app - RiverCast

Cory Bolton is a Portland Yacht Club member and tells of his trouble getting out of a local moorage in low water and trying to find something that would help him quickly know the river level at his location. He couldn't find anything so he developed his own App. It is available for both iOS and Android systems and the basic version is free. Take a look at his website about this product and let's all say thanks to Cory for being a Sponsor of CRYA! You can find all the information on the App Here.

Content in your Club's Newsletters that all Boaters should read?

We can't see every club's internal communication, but we have to think some of the articles would be great information for all boaters. If you find that article of interest, please forward it to cryanews@gmail.com after getting approval to share. We can all be more informed.
