Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County Programming Updates
There have been some changes in our staff at One Safe Place including staff who help run the Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County program. Many of you knew Rachel Gilbert, and worked with her for many years to help promote Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County, Campus Crime Stoppers, and Friends for Life throughout our community and schools. At the end of August Rachel left One Safe Place to start a new professional chapter. We want to thank Rachel for her 17 years of service. She was an invaluable asset to One Safe Place's crime prevention efforts and is a major reason Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County has become one of the most successful Crime Stoppers programs in the state of Texas. For that, One Safe Place and the Tarrant County community is grateful for her years of dedication and service to crime prevention. We will miss you Rachel! We are wishing her the best in any and all future endeavors she decides to pursue.
With this said, Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County is still operating as normal! We are still here to serve you and help take anonymous tips on crime and victimization issues throughout Tarrant County. Our call center is ready to take your tips and send them to the right entities.
As for staffing, we are happy to welcome Dow Croyle to the One Safe Place team. He is our new Crime Stoppers Coordinator. Because of his former work with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas, he has years of experience in crime prevention and criminal justice. Julian Rangel, our Crime Prevention Engagement Specialist, is still on with One Safe Place and available for outreach and engagement activities related to Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County.

September is Suicide Prevention Month! This month is a way to come together as a community and raise awareness of suicide and the impacts it has on friends, families, and the community.
Suicidal thought can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, or background. Although, there is higher risk in youth, those who experience discrimination, and social/environmental stressors. Suicide Prevention Month is a month used to raise awareness, provide vital information, and ensure that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to seek help.
Recent statistics show that youth suicide is still a major problem. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for people aged 15-24 years old in the U.S. and second leading cause of death in Texas.1
Thoughts of suicide can be frightening, however reaching out for help or checking in with family and friends can reduce devastating outcomes. Here are some warning signs of an individuals with suicidal thoughts that you can look out for2:
- Increased alcohol and drug use
- Aggressive behavior
- Withdrawal from friends, family, and community
- Dramatic mood swings
- Impulsive or reckless behavior
We hope you use this month to reflect on what you can do in your community to help those around you who may be at-risk for suicide or simply checking in on your loved ones. Don’t be afraid to have frank conversations about mental health and well-being, it could save a life.
Friends for Life is a program of Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County that is equipped to take anonymous tips on suicidal ideation/thoughts. If you know someone who has expressed unsettling suicidal thoughts, ideas, or tendencies, we encourage you to send in an anonymous tip by calling 817-469-8477, going to our website at www.469tips.com, or using our “CCS FFL” mobile app. As an assurance, the anonymity of tips are protected by State law. We are not a crisis line and if you or someone you know is experiencing a suicide emergency please call 911 or the MHMR of Tarrant County Hotline at 817-335-3022.
