CS Utilities Five Year Plan, Illegal Immigrant Updates, Stupid Bike Lanes, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • Mayor Mobolade gave his State of the City address last week. We were informed that the mayor’s staff held a watch party, which gave city employees the chance to watch the address and enjoy a cup of coffee. Do you think this is an appropriate activity for taxpayer-funded employees? Read all the details in our latest original article.
  • We at Springs Taxpayers United couldn’t do what we do without the support of our readers. We thank you for your continued support and ask that you recommend us to your friends throughout Colorado.
  • The Venezuelan criminal gang situation in Aurora has now become a national political issue. Former President Donald Trump has referenced these gangs while on the campaign trail.
  • A local group is pursuing an open records request to uncover more information about how your taxpayer resources are being used to import illegal immigrants.
  • In Texas, Governor Abbott has declared the same Venezuelan criminal gang, that has been occupying buildings in Aurora, a foreign terrorist organization.
  • Would there even be a “housing crisis” in Colorado if the government wasn’t importing millions of illegal aliens? Something to think about.
  • The Town of Castle Rock is exploring the idea of suing Denver over their “sanctuary city” policies, that are now impacting areas outside of Denver. Would you like to see Colorado Springs join any lawsuit that might develop from this?
  • Also in lawsuit news this week, a lawsuit against the owner of the Ford Amphitheater has been dismissed. Residents impacted by noise from this venue still want relief, however. Taxpaying citizens come last in Colorado Springs.
  • Some parking meters in Downtown Colorado Springs are not synching properly with the ParkMobile phone application the city uses.
  • Colorado Springs City Council passed an ordinance that would make selling recreational marijuana inside city limits difficult, even if the upcoming measure to allow sales of recreational marijuana within city limits gets voter approval.
  • Former Colorado Springs City Councilmember John Hazelhurst points out the folly of the latest road dieting plan in Downtown Colorado Springs.
  • Colorado Springs Utilities unveiled its latest five-year plan. Yes, it will cost you more.
  • Denver is developing a plan to build around the Ball Arena in the Auraria neighborhood. One element of the plan is to build a re-entry facility for prisoners who are returning to society.
  • Denver has also modified their sidewalk tax to be a flat fee of $150 for most residents. Larger properties will still be taxed at the previous $3.50 per foot amount.
  • Why is there water seeping up from under Dublin Boulevard, near Peterson Road?
  • The Citadel Mall has announced they will provide armed security inside the mall.
  • Colorado will receive almost $29 million in federal tax dollars for road improvement, or, as they term it in the article, “all roadway users.” Does this mean almost $29 million worth of bicycle lanes?
  • Speaking of bike lanes, here is a list of the 10 dumbest bike lanes in Denver. Taxpayers paid for all of these dumb bike lanes. These dumb bike lanes exist because bureaucrats want to make their fantasy world come true, but not pay for it themselves.
  • Any larger-sized company within Colorado will need to register for the new recycling scheme the legislature passed in 2022. The costs for this new government grift will, of course, be passed on to consumers.
  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!

Don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Since most of the City and County board and commission meetings are not televised or recorded, we are trying to remedy that. We now have a camera and tripod for volunteers to check out for future meetings.
