REGISTRY
THE HERD LETTER FOR 2017 IS "E"
All Imported embryos presented for entry into the Herd Book must be fully parent verified and a copy of a four generation registration certificate of the sire and dam (certified by the foreign registry in the country of origin) must accompany the required Application for Registration forms for Embryo Transplants, prior to their admission to the Herd Book.
NEW: Changes to Online Entry Fields for Embryo Offspring
When entering embryos using your Online System, please refer to the Embryo Transplant/ Flush forms to input the required information for each embryo calf record. This is very important, as when this information is missing, it results in the registry system not being able to calculate any adjusted 205 or 365 day weights.
- the Breeding Date on the form should be entered in the "AI Date" entry field
- the Recovery Date on the form should be entered in the "Flush Date" entry field
- the Implantation Date on the form should be entered in the "Implant Date" entry field
- the Recip Tag, Recip Age & Breed Makeup entry fields should also be completed (entered) in the Online System for each ET calf
**Note: If the Recip is a registered (and enrolled) Simmental, please enter the registration number in the appropriate entry field (see illustration below)

IN WITH THE BLUE - COMING SOON!
The Canadian Simmental Association is excited to introduce the Simmental personalized back button RFID tags coming in the spring of 2017 (pending final approval from the CFIA)!
A personalized back button will provide Simmental influenced cattle with identification in the sale ring, at feedlots, and throughout the beef value chain. The identification that this back button provides will also help identify the quality of cattle that our breeders and CSA members take great pride in.
The CSA's personalized RFID tags are manufactured by Allflex and will be distinguished by a blue color with the Simmental "S" icon and half Canadian flag in the center.
To purchase the CSA's personalized RFID tags buyers must be a CSA member in good standing and or have purchased a Simmental Bull in the last two years that was transferred to their name.
Pricing
The CSA's RFID tags will be available to order through your account on the CCIA website, or by phone at 1-877-909-2333.
A bag of 25- $78.00 or a box of 100- $292.00, and applicable taxes
All orders of the Simmental RFID tags must be approved by the CSA office before being released to the buyers. Tag orders will be issued by premise and not by ownership of cattle.
If you have any questions regarding the CSA's RFID tag, please contact;

CSA MEMBER SERVICE UPDATE - CALVING EASE EPD
The Canadian Simmental Association recently introduced a Cow Calving Ease EPD (CCE) to complement our historical Calving Ease EPD that was displayed as HCE. This was done in an attempt to more positively, and fairly display some bulls with regards to how they would potentially calve when used on cows.
Unfortunately, this change did not have the desired effect, and has also created some confusion. As a result, the CSA has removed the CCE until the Breed Improvement Committee re-examines it at the March Board meetings.
The removal of the CCE does not affect the CE EPD, which is also the same values as the HCE that was displayed previously.
Please contact the CSA office for further questions.

FRIENDS OF CANADIAN SIMMENTAL FOUNDATION
Happy 50th Anniversary to Canadian Simmental Breeders! 2017 will be a year of celebration and reflection. We owe a great deal to those that saw the future of this breed, and what it could do within the North American beef industry. Part of Travers Smith's legacy will be his importation of "Parisien". The Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation belongs to all of those that had the vision to believe in bringing the Simmental breed to Canada. Those that supported and have developed the breed over the past 50 years, and those that see the value it brings to the generations of the future.
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary we would like to encourage past, and present Simmental enthusiasts to discuss with us how part of their legacy can be acknowledged through the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation. The Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation is a registered charity with Revenue Canada making your gifted contribution tax deductible.
Please contact any of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation at www.simmentalfoundation
.com to discuss the variety of ways to contribute to the Foundation.
