THE HERD LETTER FOR 2018 IS "F"

THE - Online Simmental.com Users:  Entering Birth Information
There are two ways in which you can enter calf records using the Online system. The examples below are assuming the Online user is entering 2018-born (F- year letter) calves.
 Option 1:
My Herd
My Inventory

My Posted Inventory - 2018
  • Using your mouse, click on the word "Calving" to the right of the Dam that is listed on your screen.  This will open the entry screen and populate the Dam Reg number field automatically.
  • After entering the birth details click on the "Save" button to save the calf record, hit the "Back" button located in the top-left area of your screen and continue with the next Dam.
Note: If you are entering multiple calf records (e.g. Twins, triplets, or embryos), you must use Option 2 below.

Option 2:
My Performance
My Calving (2018 Display Year)
  • Click the "Add" button to enter the calf information.  If you choose this method, you must enter the dam tattoo or 6-digit registration number in the entry-field.
  • Click the "Save" button to save the entered birth information.
If you have any questions please contact the Canadian Simmental Association office toll free at 1-888-860-6051 or 403-250-7979.
BREED IMPROVEMENT

Genetic Evaluation Update
The 2018 Spring run of the CSA genetic evaluation is now live within the CSA registry system and the new EPDs are now online.
Click here to view them online.

Ultrasound
As we approach calving season, it is also the time that we consider yearling bulls and heifers for our replacement/ sales pens. For those interested in obtaining information on carcass merit, ultrasound scanning can be an affordable option and may provide additional marketing opportunities. If you already scan, consider scanning heifers as they provide more information on marbling than the bulls, and will also bring that carcass record with them into your cowherd. Barn sheets can be printed from the online system, and scans can be taken by a certified technician between 300 and 440 days of age.

BOLT
Watch for information and news as IGS and CSA moves toward full implementation of the BOLT genetic evaluation. This exciting development will increase the speed and accuracy of genetic evaluation. While some animals will see changes in their EPD and the accuracy of their EPD, the new BOLT evaluation will provide EPD that are as close to the animal's "True Genetic Potential" as is possible with the science we have available today.

FRIENDS OF CANADIAN SIMMENTAL FOUNDATION

Welcome to 2018. The last few years have been ones of growth and development for the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation. Due to the tremendous support of our annual Foundation Auction held in conjunction with the Canadian Simmental Association Annual Conference, along with private donations to the FCSF we have been able to sustain and increase our scholarship contributions and support of the National Youth Program - YCS.  We thank you for your continued support.

In 2018 we will again be hosting our annual fundraising Auction at the annual conference in Olds, Alberta in August 2018. We will be forming a working committee in the next few weeks and welcome anyone that would like to work on this project. As well if you have an item, genetics, product that you would like to contribute to the auction, we would be interested in visiting with you.  Donators receive a charitable tax receipt for the amount that the item brings in the auction. Please contact Deanne Young at 780-542-0855 or highcountrycattle@gmail.com for more information.

Our Lot 1 - a bred heifer that will lead of the evenings events has generously been donated by Lewis Farms, Spruce Grove, Alberta. The Friend of the Foundation for 2018 will be the Lewis Family. They have been supporters of the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation since our inception. We very much appreciate their donation and look forward to hearing more about Lot 1.
