UPCOMING PRESIDENTS’ DAY HOLIDAY
We would like to remind you that CSArts-SGV will be closed next week on Friday, February 11, in observance of Presidents' Day. We hope you enjoy the long weekend!
WINTER FORMAL TOMORROW
Be sure to get all dolled up in your Hollywood finest for Winter Formal! This classy event will be held tomorrow, Saturday, February 5, from 7-11 p.m. at Castaway Burbank, an outdoor venue.

Attendees: Please don’t forget to submit proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. All students must screen themselves before coming to the event and follow all CSArts-SGV COVID-19 policies and procedures. Students should be prepared for a temperature check upon arrival and will be required to wear a mask during the event. Do not send your child to the event if they have tested positive for COVID-19 or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. CSArts-SGV Administration will continue to monitor conditions and may add additional guidance or mandates based on the requirements of the venue or the recommendations of public health officials.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
At CSArts-SGV, one of our core pillars is creating a welcoming culture. This means, in part, creating an inclusive campus environment for all members of our diverse school community. Any national celebration that brings focus to diverse cultures gives us the opportunity to listen, reflect, and take action in advocacy of inclusion and equity. CSArts-SGV has a number of student clubs dedicated to social activism, a committee focused on furthering our work in equity, and a Student Culture Executive Board, which meets regularly with Administration to share feedback from various student affinity groups on campus.

Black history is an essential part of American history, during this month and all year long. In celebration of National Black History Month, we would like to highlight some of the incredible work that our Black Student Union (BSU) is doing on campus. BSU will be sponsoring a student performance, followed by a super heroic film screening, on Tuesday, February 22, a lunch event on Friday, February 25, and twice-a-week pop-ins during morning announcements throughout the month of February.

STUDENT DESIGN CONTEST FOR APPAREL
Attention students in all conservatories and grade levels: Are you interested in having your design skills showcased on a limited-edition CSArts-SGV apparel item? We are currently accepting student design submissions to be featured on the front of a t-shirt or sweatshirt in our next schoolwide online apparel sale. Don’t miss your chance to create a new spirit look that all your peers can be proud of, including our newest group of CSArts-SGV students being admitted this spring!

Designs must:
  • Only use ONE color (all black or all white preferred) so the artwork can be placed on top of a variety of colored apparel
  • Incorporate the full school name (California School of the Arts – San Gabriel Valley) OR the school acronym (CSArts-SGV) as a text element within your design
  • Incorporate the approved CSArts-SGV star/box logo somewhere in your design
  • Be applicable to the whole school (please do not feature the name of any one conservatory)
  • Be school appropriate
  • No violent or inappropriate imagery or text
  • Be submitted as one of the following file types, with all fonts and strokes outlined:
  • Adobe Illustrator (.Ai)
  • Vector (.EPS)
  • High-res Photoshop (.PSD) at 300DPI

Once all submissions have been received, a panel of administrators and staff will be reviewing the designs to select a small group of finalists. Then these final designs will be shared on the @CSArtsSGV Instagram account so our CSArts-SGV community can vote and determine the winning design for inclusion in our next sale! Stay tuned for a future newsletter notifying the CSArts-SGV community of how and when to vote.

If you have any questions about this student design contest, please email [email protected]. Good luck and happy designing!

The following are a few reminders to keep our school community safe and informed.

Weekly COVID-19 testing will continue to be available to all faculty, staff, students, and families as an extra health and safety resource every Monday at 1:30 p.m. The drive-through clinic is located in the parking lot off Highland Avenue. Walk-ups are welcome. Please visit our COVID-19 Dashboard for information on how to register.

We are continuing to receive frequent updates from various state and local agencies and will make sure to update our community as information evolves.
