November 3, 2023

Please remember that Daylight Saving Time will end this Sunday, November 5, and clocks will fall back one hour. Enjoy the extra sleep this Sunday!

A veteran – active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve – is someone that has committed to serving our nation and all Americans through countless acts of love, bravery, and courage. There is no adequate way to thank our veterans for everything they sacrifice for our freedom, but Veterans Day offers us a small way to express our appreciation for their service. CSArts-SGV sends our sincerest gratitude to all our service personnel, both past and present! We especially recognize our staff and parents who have served or are actively serving our nation.

In observance of the Veterans Day holiday, CSArts-SGV will be closed next Friday, November 10. We hope you have a great long weekend as we honor our veterans.

As a reminder, today, Friday, November 3, is the deadline to clear all unreported student absences and truancies from the first three months of the school year. Please review your student’s attendance record on the Aeries parent portal. If you see the following marks: A (absent), Z (truant), or G (partial-day truancy), please reach out to [email protected] to clear them.

Please be aware that the second progress reports of the fall semester will be available for viewing starting next Thursday, November 9 on Aeries. To assist students and families in better understanding their progress report, please review the following information:

High School Families: The Aeries portal provides students and parents with progress reports every six weeks. A progress report is a snapshot in time and not a final grade. A student’s official report card or transcript is made up of end-of-semester grades.

CSArts-SGV progress reports are viewable in the Aeries portal at under “Grades.” If you are having trouble accessing your Aeries account or have forgotten your password, please contact CSArts-SGV Tech Support at [email protected]

Please utilize the resources below for details on how to view gradebook information.

Middle School Families: Please see the “Middle School Updates & Reminders” section at the bottom of this newsletter for more information on accessing middle school grades.

For CSArts-SGV students wishing to transfer conservatories for fall 2024, applications are now available at Apply early, as the deadline to submit an application for a conservatory transfer is rapidly approaching on Monday, December 11. Transfer applications will not be accepted after the application deadline closes, regardless of the reason. Additionally, there are no mid-year conservatory transfers for current CSArts-SGV students. Mid-year applications, for a select few grades and conservatories, are only available for new CSArts-SGV students. If you have any questions, please contact our Admissions Office at [email protected].

Do you know a student entering grades 6-12 next fall who may be interested in joining our welcoming, creative, and unique school culture? CSArts-SGV’s Preview Day is tomorrow, Saturday, November 4! Please invite any prospective families to attend and let them know applications for the 2024-2025 school year are now available on our website! The deadline for prospective students to apply is Monday, February 5. Our final Preview Day will be held on Saturday, December 16.

Safety Update Regarding Bees

We wanted to inform you that in recent weeks there have been multiple reports regarding bees and the possibility of active bee hives on campus. Our Facilities Team completed an inspection and concluded that there are no active hives on campus. With this in mind, please understand that bees are a vital part of the natural ecosystem, and our campus does experience seasonal fluctuations of their activity throughout the year. The maintenance team is working hard to resolve some of the issues and concerns by increasing clean up on campus, landscaping, and frequently deep cleaning our trash cans, as bees are attracted to these areas. Students can do their part by cleaning up after themselves and ensuring that their trash goes into the appropriate receptacles. All of these efforts will help keep our students and staff members safe.

Traffic Reminder

Drivers, for the safety of our campus, please remember to use your turn signal when entering the Highland Avenue Parking Lot. By using your turn signal as you enter the parking lot, those exiting can move along quicker. This will ensure that drop-off and pick-up run efficiently. Thank you all for your patience while we evolve these practices.

Progress Reports

In order to align with CSArts-SGV’s grading timeline, middle school grades will be available soon in your Duarte Unified School District (DUSD) Aeries parent portal. The DUSD Aeries parent portal is the official communication tool for progress reports and grades for middle school students. Google Classroom houses instructional resources and digital assignments and also communicates overall classroom grades for middle school students. Next week, middle school grades will be exported from Google Classroom and imported into DUSD Aeries grade reports. Please refer to the Middle School Technology Packet for more information about logging into these portals.
