What's HOT the week of October 17, 2022 | | |
Art & Craft
by Robin Coste Lewis
I would figure out all the right answers
first, then gently mark a few of them wrong.
If a quiz had ten problems, I'd cancel
out one. When it had twenty, I'd bite my tongue
then leave at least two questions blank: _____ _____.
A B was good, but an A was too good.
They'd kick your ass, call your big sister
slow, then stare over your desk, as if you'd
snaked out of a different hole. Knowing
taught me—quickly—to spell community
more honestly: l-o-n-e-l-y.
During Arts and Crafts, when Miss Larson allowed
the scissors out, I'd sneak a pair, then cut
my hair to stop me from growing too long.

Family Meeting Recap
Thanks to everyone who joined us last Thursday for our first family meeting of the 2022/23 school year. We talked about all the things the CSCA does to support our school and some of the ways our school is unique. Dr Casey and the board appealed to TCS families to step up and be an active part of our community because our school is special but it's not a given. We need to be involved to keep our school functioning so that our kids can flourish.

CSCA Needs You!
We've had a good turn out of new and returning members since the beginning of school, but it's time to get serious. The last three school years have sapped our community resources and our board is operating with a skeleton crew. Our last two remaining board officers are serving past their two year terms and their students are graduating at the end of this year. Our newsletter editor and membership chair is also a senior parent. We have multiple open committee chair positions. Please take a look at the board slate below and let us know if you can help. We need to fill all highlighted positions. If you are able to serve, please contact member chair, Monica Payson, at monica@paysley.net.

Four Year College Checklist
Seniors, if you're planning to attend a four-year college, it's application season! Make sure you are progressing in your planning and application process:
- Complete your college search. Choose 2 dream schools, 2 solid schools, and 2 safety schools that match your goals.
- Understand the difference between early decision, early action, and regular decision and plan accordingly. Many early decision application deadlines are around the beginning of November. Many regular applications are due around the beginning of January through spring. Make sure you know deadlines for the colleges you are interested in.
- Create a Common or Coalition App or apply directly to the schools of your choice.
- Draft your college essays and ask for feedback (you can ask for feedback from Mr Greenberg, Ms Carroll, your Running Start writing center, and Mr Rho).
- Ask teachers for letters of recommendation (many schools require 2).
- Let Ms Hayes know if you will need a counselor letter.
- Finalize and submit your applications.
- Apply for financial aid.
- Breath.

Your student must submit the signed (by Ms Hayes) form to their RS office to unlock registration.
