Happy Holidays from CSCNL!

As the holiday season begins in Newfoundland and Labrador, I'm reflecting back on the incredible acts of kindness and community support we've witnessed at CSCNL in 2023.

This is why our new "Volun-Cheer" campaign is more than a celebration; it's an acknowledgment of the tireless individuals and organizations who step up, particularly during these times.

They're the unsung heroes, whether they're organizing events for seniors, participating in beach clean-ups, volunteering at food banks, or simply offering a helping hand to those in need. These contributions not only bring joy and support to others but also impact our collective well-being and create a sense of community belonging.

The recent Well-Being Community Fair at the St. John's Farmers' Market was a testament to this spirit. With over 50 community organizations and volunteer groups, we showcased a spectrum of low-cost or no-cost services contributing to our health and wellness. The fair was not just an event; it was a vibrant display of community strength and resilience.

Interested in having a Well-Being Fair in your community? If so, reach out to Lindsey Hynes at [email protected] and let's explore! Your participation could spark a wave of change.

Stay connected and inspired – visit our website, sign up for our newsletter, and join a movement dedicated to uplifting each other all year long.

Thank you for embarking on this meaningful journey with us. Your involvement and support mean everything.

From my family to yours, and from all of us at CSCNL, Happy Holidays! Here's to a 2024 filled with health, happiness, and community spirit!

Discover Newfoundland and Labrador's Social Enterprises - Join Our Directory!

At CSCNL, we have long been advocates for social enterprises, recognizing the incredible potential they hold in not only strengthening our communities but also in generating diverse revenue streams for the community sector. In fact, back in 2008, we created a guidebook to support social enterprises in Newfoundland and Labrador.

In our effort to promote social enterprise development in the province, we're excited to announce our initiative to create a province-wide directory of social enterprises. This directory will serve as a valuable resource, helping both social enterprises and those seeking their products and services to connect and thrive.

We need your help to make this directory comprehensive and impactful. If your organization is involved in social enterprise and you'd like to be included, please get in touch with Christine Snow, CSCNL's Manager of Policy and Research at [email protected].

When you reach out to Christine, be sure to provide us with the following information:

  • The goods and services your social enterprise provides.
  • Your organizational name.
  • Contact information for your social enterprise.

Navigating Financial Services with CPA NL's Guidance: In Newfoundland and Labrador, only accountants licensed by CPA Newfoundland and Labrador (CPA NL) are legally allowed to conduct audits and reviews of financial statements. CPA NL also requires its members to register, ensuring they follow professional standards, even for services that don't require a license. To help banks and anyone using financial statements understand these rules, CPA NL has created a helpful article, "Why a CPA." This guide is essential for making smart financial decisions and is available here.

Additionally, CPA NL keeps a current list of all licensed accountants, making it easy for you to check if an accountant is officially recognized. This list is accessible on the CPA NL website here. If you're unsure about an accountant's status or if you've received a financial report from someone who isn't licensed, you can contact CPA NL at [email protected] for further assistance.
