Bigelow Cardiac Surgery Resident Research Competition

Join us at the 3rd Annual Bigelow Canadian Cardiac Surgical Resident Research Competition! For the first time, this CSCS-endorsed event will be in-person, on Saturday March 4, 2023 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Toronto, ON. We have 14 outstanding abstracts from residents across the country. Residents will be competing for prizes and bragging rights in clinical and basic/translational categories. Professor Michael Borger, Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Leipzig, will be giving the distinguished guest lecture, "Building an international career in academic cardiac surgery: Lessons learned from Canada, US and Germany".


This will be a fun and informal meeting, with faculty surgeons, residents and trainees at all levels networking, competing in Cardiac Jeopardy, and enjoying face to face interactions. Dress code is completely casual. There will be dinners on Friday March 3rd and Saturday March 4th as well. Please contact Julie Wei to register. Registration is complimentary.

Division Head, Division of Cardiac Surgery

The Ottawa Hospital, University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa


The Department of Surgery of the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Hospital/Heart Institute is inviting applications for a visionary leader with excellence in academic and clinical leadership to be its next Head of the Division of Cardiac Surgery, upon successful completion of the mandate of the previous Division Head. The Division Head holds a joint appointment as the Division Head for academics (university) and Division Head for clinical services (hospital). The successful applicant is accountable to the Chair & Chief of the Department relating to the academic mission and to the CEO of the Heart Institute regarding clinical operations and matters in fulfilling the mission, vision and goals of the Department, the Hospital(s) and the Faculty, in particular as they relate to the Division. The Cardiac Surgery Division Head will work with the Vice President of Clinical Operations and will be part of the Senior Management Team and report to the President/CEO of the UOHI.


Requirements:

  • The candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  • The candidate must have coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
  • The successful candidate must have demonstrated outstanding knowledge, skills and ethical standing as evidence by strong letters of reference from their Division/Department Head
  • Candidate with a Masters or PhD is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in both English and French is an asset given the bilingual nature of the affiliated university position.
  • The candidate must demonstrate an outstanding record of academic and clinical leadership experience.
  • The candidate must demonstrate academic success in leading research programs and developing junior faculty
  • A university rank of Associate or Full Professor
