Academic Cardiac Surgeon

The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery at St. Michael's Hospital, Unity Health Toronto, is inviting applications for a full-time faculty position. 

 

The effective date of this appointment is tentatively planned for late 2026 or early 2027.  


The successful candidate will be a cardiac surgeon with recognized subspecialty training in aortic surgery and structural heart disease. The successful candidate must hold certification in cardiac surgery recognized by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and hold, or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The candidate will have, or be working towards a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field and will be eligible for an appointment in the Department of Surgery, University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, as a Surgeon-Scientist, Surgeon-Investigator or Surgeon-Teacher. Advanced clinical training in the form of a fellowship will be considered an asset.

Mitral Valve Surgeon/
Cardiovascular Surgeon

Toronto General Hospital

The Division of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Toronto General Hospital, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at University Health Network is searching for an attending Cardiovascular Surgeon, with a focus on mitral valve surgery.

 

The successful candidate must have broad experience in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with a focused expertise in the surgical care of mitral valve disease, including complex mitral valve reconstruction, and will carry on the tradition of excellence in valve surgery at UHN. Expertise in minimally invasive approaches, in particular robotic cardiac surgery, is required. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.

 

We are aiming for the effective date of the appointment to be summer 2026, with a tentative target of July 1, 2026- with flexibility of the start date as needed. The candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Cardiac Surgery Trainee Challenge


The 2025 Cardiac Surgery Trainee Challenge invites medical students, residents, and fellows to test their mastery in a live-leaderboard quiz arena that rewards speed, accuracy, and persistence. Competitors sharpen essential cardiac-surgery concepts, vie for cash prizes of $1,000, $500, and $250, and generate data that will help us refine next-generation AI teaching tools.
