C-ville Westies @ Swing Fling Interested in attending a weekend dance event? There are two within easy driving distance coming up on the near horizon:
Swing Fling and
Trilogy Swing. Swing Fling is August 8th-11th in Herndon, VA and Trilogy Swing is September 5th-8th in Durham, NC. You can attend for the day or the whole weekend, up to 4 days of workshops with the top West Coast Swing dance pros, social dancing, competitions and performances. You can also check out the vendors (especially shoes!). It's great to venture outside of your home base and you'll meet and dance with people of all levels from all over the world. And as there are dozens of C-ville Westies who will be going, you'll also have a home base group to hang with! Not sure what to expect, you can ask me! Make your plans to attend, today!

CSDS is so excited to present San Diego based West Coast Swing Champion/pro Brandi Guild to the Charlottesville-Central Virginia dance community, Saturday, August 17th! Brandi is also a Champion in Ballroom and Country and is considered to be the Master Technician for both Leaders and Followers in West Coast Swing. She is excited to be making her first visit to Charlottesville after meeting many of us at events across the country!
Here are all the details:
SKILL REQUIREMENT:
Participation in these workshops requires a solid working knowledge and the skills to dance all basic patterns (starter step, side passes, pushes, whip) with good timing, on your own and with a partner.
SATURDAY SCHEDULE:
1:30-2:00 pm: Registration/Warm Up
2:00-3:00 pm: Workshop 1 - Competitors Workshop
3:00-3:30 pm: Registration/Warm Up
3:30-4:30 pm: Workshop 2 - Make the Feet Work
4:30-4:45 pm: Break
4:45-5:45 pm: Workshop 3 - Connect & Communicate
5:45-6:00 pm: Break/Dinner Set Up
6:00-6:50 pm: Dinner Break (Catered Dinner or BYO)
6:50-7:00 pm: Set Up for Workshop 4 + Dance

July Dance Recap
Thanks to all who attended our July dance with Eddie + Adela as our lesson instructors/DJs for the evening! We had a fantastic turnout for the lesson and the dance, especially given the summer season and hot temperatures, with dancers also coming from NoVa, Lynchburg, Richmond and probably a few other places too. Thanks for road tripping to play with us! We also enjoyed having some first-time attendees; we hope you had a great time, met some nice people and look forward to seeing you again at another dance! There are many to choose from; check out the column to the left for the lowdown on local dancing!

HELPERS WANTED!
Would you enjoy free admission to a CSDS dance? CSDS is a non-profit organization and is 100% run by volunteers. It "takes a village" to host a dance. Volunteer Coordinator
Kristin Wenger is collecting names of CSDS members who would be willing to help out from time to time in exchange for free admission. We need helpers to sit at the registration desk, clean up, or help with the snack table.

Adela is often the Table/Group Dinner Organizer for events attended by Charlottesville Westies ~ if you're planning to go to any of these or other events, let her know! And reserve your hotel room ASAP as the event hotels usually sell out well in advance; you can always cancel it later. Don't wait until you decide to go to book your room; it will be too late!
Gaia Read often organizes roadtrips from Charlottesville for the DC/MD/NoVA dances/events; contact her if you're interested in carpooling sometime.
