Several school bonds passed the last few elections, so we've put together a panel presentation from a handful of representatives on the different school projects in progress or upcoming around our region; including Hillsboro, Tigard-Tualatin, Reynolds, Oregon City, Salem-Keizer and possibly more.

Come and check out who in our local area is going to do great things for the future of our kids and our community. Register Here!

 EDUCATION
Recap: Learning & Libations Fire Station Tour
Jenn Thomas, CSI, CDT, Education Co-Chair

We had another wonderful Portland Chapter event on Tuesday, August 14th. The Learning & Libations event took members on a tour of the Clackamas County Fire Station No. 16 in Oregon City. We want to give a special thanks to Camilla Cok and Meeghan Hart with Hennebery Eddy Architects and our President, Ali LaManna with Emerick Construction for hosting the event.

The design implements a new building concept for firefighter's living quarters, the design includes eight separate rooms for firefighters, each with their own private "wet room". This type of room arrangement also solves a lot of egress issues with a typical fire station layout. In addition, the new design concept for the fire station will be easy to expand upon or remodel to decrease the firefighters living spaces depending on the future needs of the community as well as other fire stations. The design also includes efficient building systems such as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. One such efficiency is the use of solar panels to help generate electricity for the firefighters. This excellent new green building will be a great new space for our firefighters and an excellent new addition to the Clackamas infrastructure.

Job well done to all those involved with this successful project.

Sheldon Wolfe, RA, FCSI, CCS, CCCA, CSC

I've been having a lot of fun lately, going through boxes of old Construction Specifiers, paper files I accumulated at the office, and digital files I've acquired in the last forty or so years. Among my own articles, I found a couple of series that might be interesting to look at again.
One of them was TeamCS, CSI's first attempt at an online magazine; forty-one issues were published from 1998 through 2003. Each month, a topic was given to four authors, representing the four team members as envisioned by CSI at that time. There were a couple of changes in authors over the years, but the ones I remember were Tom Deines, speaking for the constructor; Paul Bertram, speaking for the supplier; Phil Kabza, speaking for the designer; and me, speaking for the owner. Here is an example (the links to the four teams are not active).  READ MORE >
