Meherzia Labidi is a member of the Tunisian House of People’s Representatives (parliament) representing Nabeul, and a member of the Executive Committee of Nahdha Party, responsible for relations with civil society organizations. She served as Vice President (i.e. Deputy Speaker) of the Tunisian National Constituent Assembly from November 2011 to December 2014. She is active in the Religions for Peace network, an NGO recognized by the United Nations, and has been president of the Global Women of Faith network since 2006. She has a masters degree in translation from the Sorbonne along with degrees in English literature and theater, she has taught translation at the Institut Européen des Sciences Humaines in Saint Denis, France. She has published six works, mostly regarding issues of religion and faith.

In 2014, she was selected as the "most senior elected woman in the Middle East". She was proud of helping to include a clause to protect women's rights into Tunisia's new constitution.

In 2004 Labidi co-authored “Abraham, réveille-toi, ils sont devenus fous!” (Abraham, Wake Up. They Are Going Crazy) with Laurent Klein.   She gives lectures on education in multicultural societies, women, religion and society. Since 2006, she has been Chair of the Global Women of Faith Network.  Labidi-Maïza was elected member of the European Council of religious leaders. In 2015, she served as the honorary President of Religions for Peace, a New York-based NGO recognized at the UN.
