SPECIAL FEATURE

American Paradigm Schools

The CSO would like to spotlight American Paradigm Schools (APS) for their amicable community work and support of those in need. Pajama drives, produce giveaways, and clothing donations for the homeless were just a few of the charitable efforts orchestrated by the APS community in recent weeks.

Vaccination clinics, hosted by Lindley Academy, were also organized for eligible members of the public who were encouraged to get the vaccine by students and staff, in effort to protect themselves and others.

On behalf of the entire CSO and charter sector, we thank the APS community for their dedicated services!

Updated School Guidance

Per the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH), Philadelphia schools should not follow the five-day guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at this time during the Omicron surge. All schools are expected to follow the current PDPH guidance indicating 10 days of isolation and quarantine, which may be shortened with testing. Please refer to the updated chart here for more information.

Additionally, while the city works to align with the CDC as much as possible, the five-day guidance only applies to the general public, and does not apply to certain settings such as long-term care facilities, dormitories, shelters, childcare facilities, or K-12 schools.
PHLConnectED School-Based Caregiver Digital Supports Grant

As a reminder, PHLConnectED has launched a grant cycle to foster and develop creative school-based digital support initiatives for pre-K-12 caregivers. This opportunity aims to enhance support for pre-K-12 student households by providing funding for local education agencies (LEAs), school/pre-K providers and partnering community-based organizations, and also offers school-specific group and 1:1 digital support services to caregivers.

Schools interested in the grant are encouraged to submit a full proposal by Wednesday, January 12, 2022. For more information, click here. Questions can be directed to K-12 Digital Access Program Manager, Ashley Pollard, at [email protected].
District-Wide Survey Update

As a reminder, in an effort to maximize response rates and alleviate burden on school staff, the District’s Office of Research and Evaluation (ORE) will be offering a universal survey mailing option. With this, families will receive a paper copy of the survey pre-printed with their student(s) ID number(s) in February or March, along with a cover letter that includes instructions on how to take the survey online, if preferred. Families will also receive a pre-paid return envelope and will be tasked with the responsibility to return the survey, instead of schools. The survey will be available in multiple languages for applicable families.

Charter schools interested in this option can opt-in by completing this form by January 28, 2022. Questions should be directed to [email protected]
