PDPH Public Health Guidance
The Pennsylvania Department of Public Health (PDPH) has updated its COVID-19 school guidance protocols. Notable changes have been made to the following: test to stay, screening testing, and thresholds for grade and school level pauses. With this updated guidance in mind, it is critical that schools inform both the CSO and PDPH when any COVID-related change in programming has taken place, from a cohort quarantine, to an entire building closure.
As mentioned in the welcome letter, the CSO has created a COVID Quarantine/Closure Form to support quick and efficient reporting regarding quarantines and closures. The Form should be completed by a school whenever there is a COVID-related change in programming. If your school is currently experiencing or has experienced a COVID-related shift in programming this school year, you are strongly encouraged to complete the Form to ensure the CSO has the most comprehensive and updated information.
Schools also have the option to email [email protected] and/or Essence Caleb at [email protected] to share updates on closures. If you choose to email rather than complete the Form, emails should include what type of closure is in place (cohort quarantine, grade quarantine, or building closure), the start and end date for the closure, the number of reported COVID cases that is triggering a closure, and whether the closure is voluntary or recommended by PDPH.

Food Access Support
The CSO has been engaged with multiple food access organizations to receive meal related updates that impact school operations and ultimately ensure students continue to have access to free meals. Amongst these updates include SNAP income guidelines changes that were made effective on October 1st. Please share the revised guidelines with your school communities, along with the Benefits of Benefits flyer. Additional resources are available, and in multiple languages. Questions about SNAP and also P-EBT resources can be shared with Katie Milholin of the Coalition Against Hunger at [email protected].
Additionally, Share Food Program, an organization that works with hundreds of partner pantries across the Philadelphia region, encourages schools to visit their website to locate food pantries within their communities. The program provides a number of services to alleviate food insecurity in the city, and thus is happy to support schools interested in getting connected to free produce and other food-related donations. Interested schools may contact [email protected].
