Laurie responds to the turmoil of our world through inspiration found in various poetic text sources, including Jewish, Christian and Muslim. She reflects the oldest traditions of narrative textiles, but in a completely contemporary idiom.
Through her own iconography and collage, texture and calligraphy communicate a message of hope in each piece. Integrating materials with fiber and pattern, she boldly “unweaves” the fabric to reveal beginnings of new artwork that are visually stunning and spiritually uplifting.

Community Conversations This Week - Meet the Welcome Circle!

Your La Crosse Welcome Circle - with Heidi Blanke at the helm - is an awesome community organization dedicated to helping resettle newcomers from Ukraine and other countries here in La Crosse. We have been closely following the hard work and results of the group's efforts.

Heidi and the La Crosse Welcome Circle members will make a presentation - and introduce some of our Ukrainian newcomers - at Community Conversations this Wednesday, January 18 at 12 noon at English Lutheran Church. Join us in person or by Zoom.

Also, keep watching our local TV stations for informative pieces on the work the Welcome Circle is doing. Here is the most recent TV story (January 2), featuring Welcome Circle members Heidi Blanke and Olena Belka.
