Thank you for your support of the California Society of Pathologists (CSP)! As challenges facing our profession continue to persist and evolve, CSP remains the active spokesperson for you, your profession, and your patients. Here is a look back on CSP's more recent activities:
- Helped defeat AB 533 that would have limited balance billing by out of network hospital-based physicians for insured patients.
- Sponsored and passed AB 599 that expands the scope of practice for cytotechnologists to be able to perform other types of tests beyond pap smears including HPV, FISH and others in a lab director and under the supervision of a board-certified pathologist.
- Obtained emergency changes to state law to allow lab use of EQC and IQCP quality control procedures.
- Fought and succeeded in maintaining Medi-Cal payment for PC for clinical pathology.
We are available to our members as a resource for information and direction on legal and practice management issues. Information is provided through the following mechanisms:
- Upcoming webinars on important practice issues.
-
Our website at www.calpath.org that contains a variety of information and allows membership communication of issues.
- An email broadcast system for members, Cal Path Facts, which provides information on changes impacting pathology practice.
We appreciate your continued support and encourage you to actively solicit the involvement and membership of your colleagues in the CSP. Some larger groups have made membership in the CSP mandatory for all of their members because it is a valued practice management tool and they recognize the importance of our continued efforts.
If you have any questions regarding your membership, please feel free to contact the CSP office at (916) 446-6001 and speak with the CSP Executive Director, Bob Achermann or Jacob Gray in Membership.
Sincerely,
James B. Harris, M.D.
