CSP Annual Meeting in San Francisco, December 4-7
The CSP Education Committee, chaired by Dr. Manju Aron, has put together a very compelling and informative program.
We have established a more streamlined registration pricing structure for this year’s meeting with options for a full four-day registration or a two-day registration price.
Early-bird pricing has been extended to October 1 – so I urge you to please register soon and encourage your friends and colleagues to join us in San Francisco, December 4-7.

Dr. Aron and her committee have instituted several new elements to this year’s annual meeting which we believe will enhance attendees’ experience – both professionally and personally:
- New Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday night
- Resident/trainee poster session to present original research
- A Plenary Session on a topic of general interest to all pathology professionals
Important Briefing re: CSP Lawsuit v. LA Care and Reimbursement Policy
I urge you to take part in a critical briefing to provide key updates on a significant legal case that could have far-reaching financial consequences for your practice.
The briefing will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, September 24 from 1-2pm (Pacific).
Please RSVP here.
Background
In September 2022, the CSP Board of Directors made the crucial decision to support Dr. Luk in filing a lawsuit against LA Care, one of the largest Medi-Cal Managed Care Organizations (MCOs). LA Care’s recent policy shift refuses to recognize the professional component of clinical pathology for Medi-Cal beneficiaries receiving hospital lab services, putting groups like yours at risk of significant financial impact.
CSP’s Pathology Defense Fund has been depleted, and we now need urgent financial support to continue the fight. The CSP Board has approved a Capital Campaign to raise additional funds from members and partners. Your contribution—whether personally or through your group—could make a decisive difference in ensuring this case reaches a successful resolution.
This briefing will provide the latest updates on the case from CSP leadership and our legal counsel, Athene Law, LLP. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and share your perspective.
If you are not able to attend the call but would like to donate to CSP’s Legal Defense Fund please do so here or mail a check to CSP Legal Defense Fund, One Capitol Mall, Suite 800, Sacramento, CA 95814
AB 2107 Approved by Legislature – Awaits Governor’s Signature
CSP sponsored AB 2107 which will allow pathologists to perform remote digital pathology review using the primary site's CLIA, was approved by the State Senate in the final days of the Legislative Session and is now on the desk of Governor Newsom, awaiting his signature. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dr. Anne Deucher and the members of CSP’s Advocacy and Practice Management Committee, for their efforts in developing and advancing this important legislation – which would improve access, reduce delays in the assessment and transmission of diagnoses and will align California with the rest of the nation.
CSP lobbyist Ryan Spencer, who has shepherd AB 2107 through the legislative process, coordinated letters of support to Governor Newsom from CSP members and partners including the California Clinical Laboratory Association and CAP – the College of American Pathologists.
