CSPD Rents Out Cops While Citing Staffing Issues, Contested Apartment Complex in Pine Creek, Green Energy Fantasy Crashes and Burns, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • The Colorado Springs Police Chief has complained this past year about staff shortages. Recruitment numbers aren’t keeping up with officers retiring or leaving the force. Police response times are up significantly. In light of all this, why is CSPD renting out police officers to private retail establishments? Find out all the details in our latest original article.

  • Also in police news in our region, car break-ins are increasing quite a bit in both our city and the state. Police are asking you to not leave anything in your car that you don’t want to be stolen.

  • Residents in Pine Creek plan to appeal a decision by the Colorado Springs Planning Commission to build a 232-unit “affordable housing” apartment complex in their neighborhood. Why are neighbors in Colorado Springs constantly having to push back on Planning Commission decisions?

  • El Paso County is requesting resident feedback on their transportation plan for 2024. Feel free to let them know your thoughts.

  • Governor Polis gave his State of the State address last week. He wants more affordable housing options imposed on us. Also, he takes zero responsibility for regulations and other government decisions that have increased the cost of housing.

  • A neighborhood meeting is scheduled to discuss plans for the Union Printer’s Home property. A group purchased this property to build a residential and commercial site.

  • “Green energy” fantasy update: The Mountain Metropolitan District accepted government grant money to purchase 4 electric buses. In doing so, they were required to destroy diesel buses that actually worked. Now, the electric busses don’t work, and the company that made them, and was funded by a government grant, is in bankruptcy. Remember Solyndra? It’s like that all over again. And the green energy grift goes on.

  • Also in green energy news, a wind turbine collapsed and caught fire in eastern Colorado. It turns out that the oil that is needed for the turbine to function caught fire after the collapse. This doesn’t sound very green to us.

  • This week in Denver Homeless Industrial Complex news, the estimated annual cost, per household, to deal with the migrant influx stands at $500 per taxpaying household. So far. And this is on top of all the other taxpayer money the government of Denver takes from taxpayers. Nice work, Sanctuary City of Denver.

  • El Paso County ranks as the number one county in the state for handing out speeding tickets...so we have that going for us.

  • Colorado Springs City Council is seeking volunteers to serve on the Law Enforcement Transparency and Advisory Commission. I’ve you’ve been wanting to get involved in local government affairs, this is your chance.

  • Your property tax bill will arrive later than usual this year, due to the intransigence of the legislature and the governor on property tax relief, leading to the special session late last year. And so you know, the deadline for paying any taxes remains the same for you.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
