The Promise: America's Last Hope

by Sheriff Richard Mack (Ret.)
Richard Mack
The Founders of America were dedicated to creating a country and a Constitution that would NEVER allow a re-occurrence of the abuses from King George III. Their intent was to establish a government that would be a system of strict checks and balances that would keep governmental powers divided and limited. This system would leave the people to govern themselves with minimal interference from our public servants. We were to exercise complete control over ourselves, our property, our families and our businesses.

The Promise of our Founders was that our Liberty would never be taken from us again; the ultimate purpose of government would be to guarantee that Promise. In fact, the Founders expressed this Promise in the Declaration of Independence stating:

That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among men.”

In other words, the primary and paramount reason, perhaps the only reason, any government exits whatsoever, is to protect our innate, natural, and God-given rights. The Constitution was promulgated with the express intent to secure this Promise of Liberty to all future Americans and all generations.
Thomas Jefferson warned us, along with numerous other Founders, that America would cease to exist if we ignore the U S Constitution. Jefferson proclaimed, “The greatest danger to American freedom is a government that ignores the Constitution.” A contemporary and careful look around makes Jefferson appear more prophetic than presidential. Let's list just a small part of the destruction and tyranny going on in the United States today:

  • A “pandemic” exploited by politicians to take guns away from law abiding citizens.
  • Pastors being arrested for conducting church services.
  • Citizens arrested for going to church.
  • Business owners denied access to their own property and even arrested for merely trying to make a living.
  • Dictatorial orders for all citizens to wear masks or face jail and excessive fines. Without such a mask you are not allowed to work, shop, buy groceries, or travel. (Englewood, CO has enacted a $2600 fine and a year in jail for citizens who disobey these “face covering rules”).
  • Convicted felons are being released from prison by the tens of thousands while good honest people are arrested for disobeying unlawful orders from self-appointed dictators.
  • The Constitution, individual liberty, our God-given rights and the pursuit of happiness have all been suspended by our “public servants.”
  • Violence, destruction of private and public property and mindless mob criminality has been allowed and even supported by numerous mayors, governors and even the United States Speaker of the House. Unbelievable!
  • Communism and Socialism are being hailed and embraced while the Constitution is being assailed and belittled.
  • National organizations claiming to stand for “Justice” are now advocating to defund all police departments, and to actually beat and even kill our nation's Peace Officers.
  • And of course, we still have the criminal IRS ruining lives of good Americans, stealing homes and throwing innocent people to the streets. The crimes and ruthlessness of the IRS are now so widely accepted that no one scarcely notices anymore.

The aforementioned list of destruction highlights the national disaster that has been caused, not by Covid-19, but by our current list of dictators who have violated their oaths to uphold the Law: the Supreme Law of the Land. The real danger we face here is that this disaster is man-made and that so many of us accept it. If our servants in government can suspend our liberty, destroy our economy, destroy our livelihoods, and recklessly abandon the Promise of our Founders, then is there anything they can't do to us? Is there any limitation they cannot breach? Is there any law they cannot violate? Does any principle exist that is left sacred or untouchable?

Alexander Hamilton referred to the Founders' promise thusly:

The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of divinity itself; and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.”

This American Promise was an endowment from “Divine Providence” and it cannot be taken away by anyone. No human, no mortal being has the power, authority, or permission to ever erase or obscure this precious Promise.

Sheriffs and Peace Officers of America, there has never been a time in our nation's history where you have been needed more. You can stop this catastrophe; you CAN save America! You promised in sacred oath to do so. You are America's last great hope. Now, you are the Promise. The Founders handed it down from generation to generation. The Promise is now in your hands.

These are times that try men's souls: The summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country, but he that stands it now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” (Thomas Paine)

Defunding The Police :
Cutting off your nose to spite your face

Fueled by communist agitators and media hype about a police killing pandemic, the insanity continues. In major cities, the calls to defund or dismantle entire police departments ring out while in those same areas, murders and shootings trend sharply upward, following criminal riots and mayhem.

According to NBC TV4 in New York City, NYPD statistics show a dramatic increase in homicides and shootings in the first six months of 2020 compared to the same period last year:
WXYZ News in Detroit reports the same deadly trend:

“Police say many of the murders in Detroit have stemmed from unresolved arguments that escalate to gunfire. The numbers of murders and non-fatal shootings are both higher than what was seen this time last year.”
In Minneapolis recently, eleven people were wounded in a Saturday night shooting in Uptown that sent a large crowd of people fleeing a hail of bullets. The incident has sparked a conversation about public safety in the neighborhood and city. Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said deputies will provide patrol assistance and investigative resources to help arrest those committing violent crimes.

“Our communities are engaged in a dangerous spate of violence, disproportionately affecting communities of color,” Hutchinson said in a statement. “It might be easier for police, in these turbulent times, to keep a low profile and fly under the radar. But it isn’t the right thing to do.”

Meanwhile, residents in these neighborhoods– who have not been infected by the hatred and irrational fear-mongering that masks cannot stop– plead for more help from police:

"I know I have a lot of groups who have approached the Detroit Police Department about how we got to get cops back in neighborhoods," Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said.

And in Palm Beach, Florida, a request for more police in the North End and promotion of home safety highlighted Tuesday’s Public Safety Community Forum. “We need more police in our neighborhood. More police is a deterrent to crime,” said Susan Gray, a resident in the North End. (source: Palm Beach Post)

Across the nation the predictable pattern of violent criminal protests followed by police pull-back and disengagement has brought the Ferguson Effect (like a contagious virus), to many locations. And while the media throw biased coverage, like petroleum, on the fire, mothers weep for the loss of their innocent children, some younger than 5 years old, who have been killed in the past few weeks.

We need police reform, and swift prosecution of cops who break the law and violate their oaths. But we also need family reform, education reform, journalism reform, and liberty reform. These latter reforms are ripe for another discussion.

But for now, we need a return to sanity and we need our constitutional sheriffs and police officers more than ever.
