 Alicia Sasser Modestino, Associate Professor of Public Policy and Urban Affairs and Economics and Research Director of the Dukakis Center, has led Northeastern’s partnership with Boston’s summer jobs programs since 2014. This summer, the program is creating 135 summer jobs for high school students in Boston and Oakland, CA in an effort to increase working and learning opportunities that were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Undergraduate Research Initiative (URI) encourages undergraduate students in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities to carry out research or creative activities in collaboration with, or under the supervision of, faculty members with relevant expertise.


Recipients will conduct research in collaboration with or under the supervision of a faculty member, who may be from any appropriate department, school, or college of the University, and support can be used for a variety of activities.

Attend the Boston premier of the film Nafkot—a look at the Jewish communities remaining in Ethiopia as the First Temple Beta Israel Jewish Communities of Kechene and Semien Shewa—followed by panel discussion with the film's director Malka Shabtay, community member Belayneh Tazebku, and Marla Brettschneider, editor of the documentary The Hidden Jews of Ethiopia.


This event is part of the Morton E. Ruderman Memorial Lecture Series on The Colors, Cultures, and Flavors of the Jews.
